Yeah, I think something got lost in translation there. What seemed interesting to me is the link between the anti-Nazi movement in punk and Antifa. Haven't seen a good history of all that, and I thought A and I might know something about it.

Oh well my version of that is that punk was just not that political at the beginning. More nihilistic. Some bands like the clash were more aware than say the moronic pistols but not much. It grew and branched out and you had the more political bands come out. Crass was a big one of course. So was conflict (although their singer was a massive dbag according to anyone that new him).

Those punks naturally connected with all the groups in the anarchist / environmental / street lefty groups stream like the animal liberation front, hunt sabotage, and antifa.

I think it also coincided with oi (another punk offshoot that was more of an invention than anything else) going totally dodgy and absorbing the nazis punks into a new skin head element. The skins were a huge pain in the ass at shows until punks and newly branded Sharps got together and kicked them out from shows.

That organically lent itself to a big participantion in antifa. Under that banner punks, anarchists, other lefties would find out where skinheads were having right wing concerts and just maul them. The skins would have secret meeting points and get taking to the concert but antifa would find out about and be there waiting at the meet ups.

I could be getting some of this wrong it’s just my recall from the scene in Canada, As well as what I learned from some people from the states and visiting Scotland, England in the 80s.

In your defense when it comes to Islam it seems there's never a "both sides" take ;)
Well that's just no true. Examples:

China's treatment of their Muslims is indefensible.
Israel's land grab and associated actions in Palestine are both hypocritical and deplorable.
The US regime changes in the middle east are inexcusable and have led to much of the global jihadi fuckery

The above speak to my distaste of foreign cultures fucking with natives.

And here's one you helped me with:
If Europe is going to allow outsiders in, then they have a responsibility to the newcomers to set them up for success. That success doesn't come about if you marginalize them or stuff them into ghettos where they feel as "others" and have no stake in the game.

There, my both sides steak is intact. Take that!

Edit: wonder if you'll find the gotcha I set myself up for

Damned if you do dammed if you don’t. Under me they were still more manageable to deal with. Look how bad it is now.
You realize, of course,

I don't know. Most of my scars have really stupid stories.

Like aged 4, can I run faster than my buddy to pre school on rough asphalt (both knees)

Aged 6, got a new stopwatch, how long will my uncle take to go to his room and back?! walked against the wall corner (forehead)

Aged 9 or 10, can I destroy the windshield of this matchbox car with a Swiss army knife (in principle: yes, if the knife does not close and cut your thumbtip)

Aged 19, can we raid this scout camp (yes), can I put out the fire (yes), can I bump heads with guy trying to stop me (yes)

Etc. unless it's surgeries, battle scars, or really bad luck/accidents, scars tend to tell super dumb stories in my experience

Scar 1 on eyelid and upper orbital got face smashed in a light pole outside the exit
Scar 2 stabbed in hip during a robbery attempt

Ive had a few tattoo sessions with Thor that sounded a lot like this. He told it as more like skins started out as more of working class faction of punks (in keeping with the oi movement). Then the heritage front set up shop and started the poisoning of what skinhead meant. Late 80's to mid 90's were very odd times in Toronto.

My skinhead buddy definitely saw it as a movement in favor of the working class.

I find this conversation fascinating as apparently I missed it all. The only buddy I had who looked and dressed like he could have been in that scene was an FBI in Penticton. Otherwise, my world was divided between hairbags and others.
