What to you are the applicable lessons moving forward? To me the major takeaway is to have faith in America's institutions. After that I'd say vote out anyone who indulged Trump's poor sportsmanship.

What?!

That should be the exact opposite of the lesson imo. American institutions didn't stop Trump from cannibalizing government with corruption, surviving an extremely warranted impeachment, or getting his party on board with overturning democracy. We learned just how much our system relies on norms.

It was the direct actions of individuals that stopped Trump. Individuals in the public and in government.

Well, like I said, it played out more or less how I expected so not much to learn for me. I was and remain concerned about the long-term viability of constitutional and democratic gov't when one party apparently has no commitment to the idea. I think that long-term, we need a sane GOP if we're going to survive. Short-term, them getting crushed in elections and Democrats doing a good job governing is probably the easiest way to restore sanity on the right. Or some kind of realignment, where the crazies are evenly divided between the two major parties and not in control of either might work.

How many years is long-term?

Joe got sworn in on schedule. Trump got slapped down in the courts. American institutions prevailed on the matter.

Not sure exactly. Enough people in the country passed the test to get us through the attack on our system that Trump represented, but if we just get continual attacks whenever Republicans lose elections, America will eventually fall. If the presidential race was close in 2020, I think it's possible that Trump would have succeeded. We can probably expect voter suppression efforts to be stepped up ahead of 2022 elections, and especially ahead of 2024.

You want to structure a bet around America "falling"? I don't mind waiting four years to collect.

Four years is not what I'd call the long term. I think we have a bit of a boom coming up, and Biden could cruise to re-election with no controversy. What I fear is a close election combined with three-quarters of so of Republicans generally not accepting defeat.

Quoting myself because you fuckers were too slow. Also @Lead if you could stick- oh, nvm.

I was tempted to just move this post to the meme thread. But here you go.

Which'll come first ya' think, America's fall or hyperinflation? :D

Hyperinflation isn't on the menu. We just had a president attempt to stay in power after losing an election, with the support of a lot of legislators and a majority of his voters. If that doesn't worry you, I think your threat sensitivity is too low (or maybe you're OK with America ditching the constitution and democracy? Don't know where you're at with that stuff these days).

bernie could have said it to apply pressure i did not say he said it to apply pressure or that he said we should apply pressure. get your facts straight if you are going to come so hard man.

you cant be right if all you think is the opposite of whatever politicians think bud.

pelosi has said that budget reconciliation may be the way to go as reported by the hill rising.

also-- i think you may be the biggest assholes on this site and that is saying a lot. ever think you might catch more flies with honey than shit?
Dude. You definitely catch more flies with shit than honey. Like waaaaay more.

He's certainly in the running

SG isn't exactly Miss Congeniality here himself.

Also, what really bothers me about that post is that you can, indeed, catch a lot of flies with shit. The original version of that works just fine, thanks.
