That's short term thinking IMO, I used to think the same way. Yes your body has a limited amount of adaptive energy at any one point in time but developing your cardiovascular system allows your body to deliver nutrients to your muscles more efficiently. Cardio develops new capillaries and improves flow in existing vascular systems. Long term you're better set up for continued gains.

Plus if you get in a fight that lasts more than 30 seconds that lack of cardio is going to bite you in the ass, so there's that.
I was being super sarcastic with that. When I life weights I always end with about 30 mins to an hour on a treadmill. I'm too fat to run on one as it'd destroy the machine/my knees but keep the speed JUST below what would be jogging speed essentially. Usually on an incline.


I do hate having gotten back into Muay Thai/boxing as a sparring partner though.. kinda want to take a fight just to see how I'd do in my area.

LOL gotcha, sarcasm meter not working today I guess. I used to seriously think like that at one point because I was obsessed with getting bigger no matter what and trained like a bodybuilder. I damn sure learned the error of my ways when I started doing martial arts and boxing and realized that I was getting my ass kicked after the 1st 2-3 minutes. Now that I'm older I lift like twice a week and then it's JJ/MT as much as I can and I feel much better.

For me I do weights 4 days a week but am in the gym like 6... Monday - Friday I do weights/cardio with Wednesday JUST cardio. Then Sunday is sparring day at the boxing/Muay Thai gym.
 
Nasty question right there

I'm not in consulting any more, but I work in a divisional strategy department of a large corporation. So my work hours are not crazy any more, but I still get up at 6 and I'm usually not home before 7 and then still want to spend a little time with my kid. So I need to find a routine that doesn't cost me a lot of time and still keeps me fit. My first measure now is to track my calorie intake.

Maybe our new building at work can also help. They will include a cardio training section.

11 hours a day? How much of that is travel?

I have been very lucky here. In montreal and now in Orlando I live 10 minute drive from work. My gym is blocks away. I also only work crazy hours on an as needed basis. Days over 10 hours are more rare now that the company has settled down and the 14 hour days have mostly stopped.

Lots of programs will keep you fit fast but boring as fuck. Rather be doing juijitsu :).
 
When I go into cutting down mode, I don’t necessarily count calories as much as I limit my portions. Just eat until you are satisfied then stop. Stay away from sweets and drink tons of water. You can’t go on a “diet”, they suck, which is why no one ever stays on it. Eat what you like, just don’t over eat. I mean, be sensible, but you don’t have to eat chicken and rice every damn day.

It works for me. I’m not a big guy and I can drop 10-15 lbs in a few weeks by just doing that.

You’ll need to cardio as much as possible too.

Counting calories is good from an education point of view. When you gamify things with say a calorie app it’s likw you are losing points every time u eat a cookie. That will educate you on how just extra heaps of olive oil can double the calories of a meal.

But having said that. Get rid of snakes, juice, have 1 portion of decent food, make desserts rare, etc. Will get u really far along the path.
