That really creeps me out. I legitimately didn't know anyone ate snakes.

I had some rattlesnake chili at a state fair in AZ. Not bad. I mean, it tasted like chili (which is aces in my book).
That person sounds like a fool and a doucheWho here is Hispanic other than @Rod1?
I have a former law school classmate from Texas who is Hispanic (and somewhat conservative) and is engaging in a long diatribe on one of his Facebook statuses about Beto O'Rourke going by "Beto" (he only refers to him as "Robert") is culturally appropriating Hispanic/Latinx culture. He is maintaining that, even though he concedes it was a nickname given to him by his Hispanic classmates as a young child, he should have discontinued using the nickname upon becoming "woke" to the fact that it's culturally appropriating.
Like...I know that conservatives are pretty shameless about becoming bleeding hearts when it suits their political purposes, but is this perspective shared by any of you? It seems pretty fucking pedantic and whiny to me, but I'm also generally pretty liberal on the entire issue of cultural appropriation.

Sorry man, I don't understand this reference.
Culture is a collective phenomenon. It's not really someone's place to act like they alone get to decide who gets to use what aspect of it. Not the best quote, but I was going for humor at the expense of precision.
I usually stay out of the conversation, but I think there are very narrow areas where cultural appropriation is a thing: I'd say about 15% of the things brought up. People wearing sombreros and mustaches, Native headdresses, doing mocking ebonic accents, dressing up in Saudi ghutrahs, etc. But there has to be some wanton disregard for the meaning of the cultural artifact or intentional flippancy or mockery of it.
People can call that what they want. I call it people having fun (potentially) at someone else's expense, which is just how life goes. Nothing says insecure quite like whining over people playing dress-up.
I would actually kind of expect you to have a decent amount of familiarity with the concept, being a Hawaiian and given how Hawaiian culture has become so commercialized to basically signify "relaxation for white tourists."
But I do think, probably more than anything else, the mockery of Native American garbs in party costumes is uniquely insidious, much more than most other instances, just because of the history of Native Americans. Like...almost wiping an entire people out of existence, stealing their land and welshing on deals repeatedly to cheat them out of their share, relegating them to little pockets of their former homeland, and then having drunk white girls parading around wearing ceremonial items that were/are used to designate great achievement and respect within the Native community. Idk, there's something really nasty and imperial about that. Like raiding a village and wearing baby corpses as funny hats![]()
I'm in Hawaii. I ain't Hawaiian.
It's a shame what happened to them and history is full similar or worse brutality. Just like the South who lost and need to get over it, same with the Indians. Shit, we've all lost to the federal government. Wouldn't be surprised if reservations have more sovereignty than the states. Yeah, it's harsh. Yeah, you'll never catch me suggesting unflattering depictions of Americans should be censored.
"Mr Daughtery and Mr Bryant have both been indicted on third-degree felony charges, punishable by up to five years in prison."
Only had snake once I think. It tasted like frog-ish. A bit too chewy, but I liked it. I think it would be best as nugget-sized deep fried strips. It's not the sort of thing that's going to be the taste-star of anything it's in.
I should think snake meat would be good for you, but hard to come by on a budget. Junk food, on the other hand, certainly that is to be avoided if you're trying to slim down.Endorsed!!!!!!
Sort off
Counting calories is good from an education point of view. When you gamify things with say a calorie app it’s likw you are losing points every time u eat a cookie. That will educate you on how just extra heaps of olive oil can double the calories of a meal.
But having said that. Get rid of snakes, juice, have 1 portion of decent food, make desserts rare, etc. Will get u really far along the path.
