What does it matter if they believe in the horse shit? It's still horse shit.
It matters because its not a lie or a con if they believe in what they're preaching.
The vast majority. There are some legitimately mentally insane people who believe it though.
You really think the vast majority of missionaries don't actually believe in Christianity? Sounds like wishful thinking to me but maybe you have some evidence to back it up.

It's still a lie. If someone is so misinformed and uninformed that they unknowingly spread lies, they are still lying. They don't get a pass because they're too ignorant to know better.

From dictionary.com

lie
  • a false statement made with deliberate intent to deceive; an intentional untruth; a falsehood.
  • something intended or serving to convey a false impression; imposture: His flashy car was a lie that deceived no one.
So nah.

I know you weren't talking to me here, but man, I have a major problem with people who go around telling lies and fairy tales to vulnerable people, in order to brainwash and fool them into believing very outdated and immoral philosophies. And it still kind of amazes me that more decent people don't have a major problem with that sort of abuse and con artistry.
Didn’t you almost convert to Mormonism once? Or actually convert? Maybe my immunity to it causes me to be less offended by it?

I still appreciate hearing people’s philosophies though, even when I disagree. And I love fairy tales, you can usually learn from them and they’re fun; I just don’t believe in them.

Boring.

I get that but like I showed in that earlier posts Muslims rarely forcibly converted people and Christians didn't either for at least the first 400 years of their existence.

I'm just being frank about the religions. Jews are generally not open to converts because that's not what their religion is about unlike Christianity and Islam for better or for worse.
Jews are very open to converts. That’s a separate matter from actively seeking to convert others. But go to any synagogue and show interest and people will be very happy to engage you to whatever degree you wish.

I'd bet it was probably different historically but yeah I suppose I should say they don't care about spreading their religion, not that they're not open to converts.

Yes, it's a virtual belief - an abstraction above lower-level, truer belief- unless a person is mentally ill or seriously brainwashed.

But beyond that really shockingly simple idea that few have the courage to admit, it's still a problem of morality. Scapegoating being probably the worst fundamental lesson of Christianity. It's very immoral to instruct people in the moral goodness of scapegoating and blood magic. The people going around preaching that are being bad people.

I married a Mormon because I didn't think it was very meaningful and it made her happy.

Hearing fairy tales and philosophies is one thing, but aggressive proselytizing is definitely another matter, because the exchange of ideas is being done in bad faith.

Okay.

Ok, thanks for clarifying.

That all sounds reasonable to me. Like I said before when you quoted me, it’s the aggression or force that bothers me. In fact I find it reprehensible.

Deliberately trying to deceive others is scummy, too. Maybe I’m the sucker for thinking most religious people are genuine if not in their metaphysical beliefs at least in the belief that their moral system is best for the world.

In my entire life I've met precisely one Jewish convert, and he was an odd duck.

Still edgy to shit on religion I see.

you didn't think getting married was meaningful, or you converted to Mormonism as a meaningless gesture?

It's not edgy, it's just true.
No, its not edgy, but the compulsion to ridicule something you don't believe is an attempt to be edgy.
I don't believe cats are superior to dogs, but I don't feel the need to pontificate on the issue. If somebody feels that way and they're not hurting anybody in the process then good for them. Now, of course there are charlatans that do hurt people, and its not just people who preach divinity; look no further than the Oval Office (and not just the last 2 years) and the religious fervor around Trump and Clinton. Religion has, if nothing else, proven to be a benefit to people. For that reason its a good thing. Go after the charlatans and the criminals, but attacking somebody's religion just because it makes you feel superior is played out.
The conversion.
phew

Oof
That China/Muslim concentration camp thread is real, real rough lol
Yowza

got my mid-term ballet. Since the democrats abandoned the middle class and support violence and censorship, I haven't voted for any of them since 2012 (thanks obama).

Senator is McSally (R) vs Sinema (D) vs Green (G). Sinema is a commie, so that is an easy elimination. Green is from the Green party so that helps a little but I need to read something very positive or I'm voting Trump.

Congress is Ferrara (R) vs Stanton (D).

Govna is Ducey (R) vs Garcia (D) vs Torres (G)

The rest is local stuff.
