Where do you live?

I want to say Nova Scotia

Ontario, where our piece of shit Premier decided to take the Public Health recommendations for when we should start closing down again and QUADRUPLE them instead of keeping us on course.

It's absurd. The region I grew up in is out of control and people are talking about having family over for Christmas. And it hasn't even really snowed yet so the true misery is yet to come.

Solid!

My last big tournament, I was kind of a darkhorse and the bar owner took me in the Calcutta and some heavy side action. I dropped both my matches 0-5. lulz. I kinda slinked out the door after that one.
Double knockout, then. Single elimination is brutally final. You're either in or you're out. I played like I feel I should all the time (as opposed to losing to weaker players quite often); now I just have to keep it up. I think you would have appreciated some of my play. My precision was very... uh..... precise LOL

You'll have to forgive me for the apparent immodesty; I was sucking so much suck for so long just due to the mental game, choking, getting distracted, etc, it feels really good to chalk up a few tournament victories, and against some of the stronger players around here too.

I'm sure I would have. I think when we talked before, you're like a solid B player on a normal day, or some such? Is that right? I think we'd have a good match if I could get in stroke. What are you shooting with these days?

If I keep playing like I did tonight, I'll be a b+/a- if I can eliminate those last few errors pretty much, but if I go back to my old ways I'm a c, give or take.

I've been using a Chinese cheap POS snooker cue, which is great when I'm in stroke--it's like the cue ball is on a string, but when I'm even a little off, it magnifies errors 100 fold. But that's because the tip is damaged on my regular stick. It is a snooker cue that's had its ferrule replaced, and in so doing it's gotten a little shorter and fatter. That one is a Hofstetter from the 90's and I still love playing with it. Old ash and solid as a rock from before they cut down all the good trees. All the ash these days is young stuff from Canada and it's not nearly as solid, IMO. Even so, it's not much bigger than the snooker cue I've been using. But it plays very well.

Whoa, I didn't know you played big ball pool with a snooker cue. That takes some serious precision. I'm partial to maple.

If anybody is in the market for a half hour of flogging Trump, this is a pretty good take on the election and the state of our leader and what he has done to our politics:

Anyone know anything about Anna Applebaum? Her little book Twilight of Democracy is excellent and I'd love to read Gulag but it doesn't fit any topics currently on my list.

Beautiful writer. Not quite as dense as Hannah Arendt (at least not in this text) but that's who came to mind.

Ford is freaking useless.

Is there like an easily digestable and professionally made YouTube series (or similar) on American history?

A woman I work with lost her husband to Covid. It’s savage. Outside of random violence, Probably the worst way to go from a family member perspective.

I bet a podcast would be more informative. It would be cool if Dan Carlin had a giant team to podcast a more diverse and comprehensive telling of American History

What about a lecture series? The Great Courses by The Teaching Company has some high quality shit that I highly recommend (audio > video for me personally).
