War Room Lounge v175: A Call for Acronymity

There's one thing that I find a bit concerning. Was there even a single poster who came forward saying he voted Trump and it was a mistake and he is going to vote for the Democratic candidate this time?

Sure it will help if some Trump voters stay home or go independent, and also if some non-voters or third-party voters (and first-time voters!) turn out to vote Biden, but I mean, almost 50% of the US electorate have voted for Trump, and his presidency has been an unprecedented, unmitigated train wreck. Those people must exist, but where are they? Even in a place that is clearly so not representative like a karate forum sub.
No, but there were posters who acknowledged he fucked up during the debate.

@AgonyandIrony On punk songs that are way better in their non-punk covers, I present Chesterfield King.

This:

Is way better than this:

Are you guys familiar with Die Toten Hosen?

They have put out some English-language stuff,

yet their best and most popular work is in German language.

Clockwork-orange themed:

Religion-themed:

But posting this because they put out stuff as 'Die Roten Rosen', covering Christmas songs:

Oh they exist. Shit, my sister in law absolutely despises him and still also somehow manages to maintain Hillary would have been worse. It's a conundrum, but she's not voting for him this time so it all washes out. I think it's real tough for people of any flavor to admit they were wrong, and in politics it's even worse.

Speaking of German-language punk, I guess people familiar with the genre may be familiar with Die Toten Hosen or Die Ärzte, given those are quite mainstream by now. But there's a band I only recently discovered even though it is 30 years old already: Betontod. They have a similar sound that I really dig.

Betontod - Traum von Freiheit

Lyrics snippet:

English:

I met you in the streets
On this one night
Which changes completely normal people
And makes them rebels
You hear the call for freedom echoing through the silence'.
Look the mass in the face
You have clenched your fist, hold your breath
Here truth fights against duty

Let's dance together in the water cannon rain
Then fire is our stage light
And the tear gas is the mists
This dream of freedom will come true
When we stand together on one side'.

I did see that. Don't think anyone considered a change of vote due to that though.

Turnout for him might be lower.

Are Belgian politics super boring? I don't think I've ever seen you talk about them here. I honestly have no clue who the leader of your country even is.

Belgium is lucky to even still be a country. Look it up, you'd be surprised. Their politics are far from boring. It's just kind of irrelevant for the outside world since they don't Kongo any more and as long as they don't break up.

@tonni Do you get up super early even on weekends? Or is it a work day for you?

We do not discuss our affairs with outlanders like you.

I just looked up the composition of your parliament. Seems like the Flemish-speaking parliament is dominated by conservatives and nationalists and the French-speaking parliament is more progressive.

I just really can't take it seriously. Just surrender the whole thing to Germany or whatever.

@Trotsky It's just super boring, very long debates between overpaid professional liars. They all sound exactly the same too.

I think my favorite development in recent international political history is Merkel, a center right politician from a center right German party, becoming the antichrist in global politics to American conservatives because she spearheaded the resettlement of refugees (to the probable long-term benefit of Germany, mind you) instead of letting millions die.

It really goes to show that racism is everything to the American right. Any number of liberal or socialist (or communist) figures are tolerable. It's the centrist who took in brown people that is the scum of the earth.

They will never separate. Flanders, really? As if Belgium wasn't stupid enough, they're going to introduce the country FLANDERS.

Wouldn't it make more sense to split it between France and Netherlands?
