She's down by 25 pts lol

She’s a deplorable. Disgusting hateful ditz. Have you read her twitter page? It reads like a parody account making fun of republicans.

She has a quote, “Joe Biden wants to be worshipped like a god”

This is the level of irony Trump cultists use. Yes, it’s Biden who had the god complex not trump.

I did. Other than the embrace of alt-right meme speak (beta, cuck, and insisting Omar married her brother), it's not much different than most GOP congresspersons' pages imo. Put an eye patch on her and she's Dan Crenshaw.

These people are all enabled by their doofus cult leader. Being racist and hateful online is something theyre now proud of. Like a badge of honor. I can’t stand dan Crenshaw and his dumb eye patch.

"I don’t believe in assimilation because assimilation is tied whiteness"

{<jordan}
Assimilation is overrated. If I was assimilating I would be watching cricket, eating Vegemite and doing lawn bowls. Fuck that.

I will eat an occassional sausage roll or meat pie, slow down my speech and watch some rugby - that's my olive branch. No net ball, no slang, no Aussie Rules Football, no nine meals throughout the day. None of that. I refuse.

I don't think assimilation means you become the sum of all stereotypes. No need to out-Aussie Aussies. To me, the benchmark is, if you were a native, would your behaviour be considered normal?

That’s even a minor part too because in a generation or so, you probably get there regardless. I think the instant concern is respect for that countries institutions and how they work. Different cultural cross overs can be beneficial and slowly become the norm if natives like it as well. I’ve never really dug in too hard on the subject but it sounds like research for this would be tricky but interesting.

Depends who you ask. The true blue Australians I have dealt want to keep those traditions going and for people to "speak Australian" and lots of talk about what is and what isnt Australian. Most Australians, at least in the cities, arent like this thankfully.

The biggest cultural difference I have noticed for me is that Australians are far more up front when they dont like something and are pretty blunt. I think it is a bit rude but I have learned to roll with it.

I actually get along better with those from other countries: Ghana, Somolia, Thailand, China, Pakistan, Iran, India, Lebanon, etc.

Here in Germany, we differentiate between integration and assimilation. Integration basically is respect for the constitution, laws, and basic norms, whereas assimilation essentially calls for giving up your traditions and customs.

The discussion, in reality, is imo mainly about Muslims, though, first and later generations. I had a good friend in university who was a devout Sunni Muslim. He told me in no uncertain terms that no, the Quran and the German constitution are not compatible. And also no, he does not believe in equality of men and women, because e.g. based on the Quran, witness evidence given by women is worth less.

If you believe your religious law is above the law of the land, and if you disregard core tenets of our culture like the equality of men and women, then that's already a challenge for the entry level condition of integration.

That’s a good distinction. I think we do just mix that together here but I could be wrong. I mean, that sounds like an integration issue with your example. They aren’t accepting a secularized state. I don’t see the way that’s reconciled. Maybe agreeing in equality but there are volunteered roles in a private family setting. I have only really had one Muslim friend IRL who was an immigrant. He seemed pretty devoted as he’d fast and message me when there were Muslim holidays and he also left the area for an arranged marriage his parents set up. I do believe any religion has to secularize in order to integrate with a modern developed democracy.

Lawn bowls? No way you're that old.

Bloody hell man , that's rough , I can't imagine , do you mind if I ask what happened to him ?
Covid to start and several underlying conditions after that. He was beautiful. In the end, his body just gave out. But I got to say everything that he meant to me in life and watched him breathe his last breath.
