Could be. Although I don't know how much empathy people generally have for politicians in the US. There's very little here.
The increase in nationalism and political support emerging from the pandemic has already peaked in most countries back in April-May. Not sure how much he would still be able to milk that.
If Trump doesn't get particularly sick and uses that to justify an agenda of hurrying back to business as usual, I can see how that could increase support. There's plenty of frustration to tap.
Americans don't seem to care at all about competence, so I can't imagine his failure in social distancing and personal hygiene will count for much.
