I listened to a George Carlin clip the other day wherein he told this joke (paraphrased, maybe, but like me, you've probably heard it before):
Why do farmers fuck their sheep on cliffs?
So the sheep will push back.

It's an old joke, but it only just now occurred to me that rather than just being a crude joke, it actually has a deeper applicability to the relationship between Republican politicians (and especially Trump nowadays) and their followers. For a comic he was a smart motherfucker, that guy.

That was when the cracks began to show. Ultimately though, it just seems that once they ran out of material, they were content into turning it into a schlocky and shallow dragons and zombies show. The pulled the wool over people's eyes for while, and then the veil finally came off.

That said, the bad half of the series isn't nearly as bad as people make it out to be. It's totally watchable, unlike say Dexter or The Walking Dead. It wasn't that bad, just really bad when compared to it's brilliant first half run.
The first four seasons of GoT are probably the best on TV. The depth, characters, etc. but when they started speeding things up and turning it into a Michael Bay movie, it was ruined. Season 7 was pure fan service, and season 8 was one of the worst seasons in television.

I don't even know what season 7 was all about TBH, and I'm not sure I'd call it fan service. It was so completely aimless. I'd actually put it a few rungs below season 8. At least season 8 had some direction and got to it's destination. Season 7 was a complete waste of time. Nothing happens, except for possibly the worst death of a main character on the show. Littlefinger got done dirty. He deserved better.

Depressing but still better than the shit show that the sand snakes were. I had so much hope after how awesome Pedro was as Obryn.

Book Dorne story sooooooo much better

Stage 1, which got stopped, was Princess Arriane planning on seating Mycella on the Iron Throne. Dorne recognizes female leadership in the line of succession, and Myrcella is older than Tommen, therefore she should be the heir after Joffrey has died.

Then it’s revealed that Doran didn’t stop this because he’s “weak” or prefers peace, it’s that he’s been playing the long game with a plan that rivals rivals Varys and Littlefinger’s scheming where he wants to get Dorne married into the Targaryens again and use that joint power to overthrow the Lannister’s. The Danerys marrying Khal Drogo to get the Dothraki army, as well as all the funding for Danareys and Viserys, to survive this long was all him. Unfortunately Viserys got himself killed before he could marry Arriane, and so Doran changes it up and sends Quentyn to wooo and marry Dany. But he ends up getting eaten trying to claim and ride one of Dany’s dragons after she rejects him.

Now there’s a supposed (By fans) fake Aegin Targaryen running around that may ally with Dorne since Dany is taking too fucking long getting back to Westeros

hmm, I don't think that's what Carlin had in mind. I also don't remember him saying that, but he might have tossed it into some bit that needed a two hundred year old joke to pad it out. I'm only skeptical because Carlin often has jokes and quotes mis-attributed to him.

Nah Littlefinger’s death was awesome.

But Arriane tries to kill Myrcella, right? It’s been awhile.

The fan service was how all of the fan favorite characters who have never met or interacted throughout the entire series, all end up together to go north. Even Gendry showed up for no reason.

The only decent part of S8 for me was the Hound/Mountain fight. The rest was dogshit IMO.

Especially Dany's heel turn at the end. It all happened too quickly.

No, she essentially kidnaps Mycella so as to use her for the puppet. When they’re found out, Gerold Dayne (Darkstar) for some reason not yet explained takes a swipe at Myrcella and chops off her ear. She wanted to surrender them all peacefully once she realized her plan was foiled.

Ehh, I guess. I suppose I was too numb to the season to really recognize it.

I don't think the Dany heel turn was all that abrupt. She rode the line pretty well, between savior and dictator throughout the series, and I think it was always gonna be the natural ending to her arc. My problem was how quickly she got taken out, just to get to the clean wrap up. I prefer her going all mad, over her and Snow living happily ever after. It was still rather sloppily done, but given the alternative cliche ending, I'll take it. Now the actual ending wrap up(the counsel meeting) was all sorts of ridiculous.

So glad I saw the show going to shit back in Season 2 and got off that train. Tried the books, but the writing (especially the dialogue) was teen mystery novel-level.
