I was something like 16 when I first saw her pictures and even then I was really appalled at how low people on the internet were. This wasn't someone who sought out attention. It was just someone whose photos got picked up by someone else and then got circulated to infinity by internet bottom dwellers.

What can be done to discourage that kind of inhumanity on the internet by persons acting in anonymity? The internet is probably less cruel and slightly less pathetic than it was even a decade ago, but it's still pretty bad.

Oh God, I just googled her and wish I hadn't. I try not to be shallow, but good god ...... On the plus side, appears she became a motivational speaker.

There's a great deal to be said here, and i've spoken on this issue before, but it's particularly grating right for whatever reason. I tend to avoid trying to explain stuff on the internet when my dander is up; that's a recipe for gettin trolled (not by you). I've avoided the hell out of that current mascots thread, for example. Posting in that cesspool would just get me rage pwnt.

Yeah, she has a serious congenital disorder that prevents her from having body fat. She was only sixteen when her pictures started circulating around message boards making fun of her appearance and was seventeen when she was dubbed world's ugliest woman.

Her story ended up being, so far, a pleasant one, but think of the millions of people who experience similar cruelty on a smaller scale. I imagine the suicide rate for those persons is sky high.
