It's higher if anything , do you really trust red states to count honestly ?
It isn't an ideological thing, man. Countries that are entirely left-leaning show under-reporting as well. There are lots of factors that contribute to that.

I figure it probably breaks even overall, but for a massive scary pandemic that supposed to be godawful across the board 110k in a country of 350+million is.... not very scary at all.

Its been just under 100k dead (97k) Americans the last two months alone. If it was over the course of the whole year I’d kinda see your point, but 50k a month dying rate is definitely a massive scary pandemic

That’s well said.

I’ll never understand why our infrastructure gets so little attention and money. It seems like spending in that area would lead to strong job creation as well.
It's kept many a government in power around here, so I don't get why it seems to be kept as a last resort in the US.

Please fucking fuck it with the autoplay vids. It even fucking autoplays when it's quoted FFS. Spare me, please. Have some fucking mercy, FFS.
It's inconsistent for me. Sometimes the autoplay happens, but usually it doesn't. Weird.

Buffalo has now gone three days without anything resembling a riot.

Coincidentally, it's been that long since the riot police have quit

@Trotsky
Although apparently they did not quit out of solidarity. That statement was by the police union, and the guys who quit are disputing it. Apparently they quit the ERT (riot) team because union is refusing to pay legal fees for ERT related lawsuits, so we've gone from reprehensible to petty.

Yes. Being the battle ground between East and West will sap a place of it's most valuable resources and ruin infrastructure. Nevermind the Treaty of Trianon left a long standing interdependent economic entity scattered and dismantled.

One thing documentaries on the '56 revolution have in common is how well received Hungarian refugees were. They were the cream of the crop and highly educated so were of great benefit to their new countries while their loss was almost a tragedy. Almost 1% of the population fled and they consisted mostly of the best of the best the country had to offer.

Then, especially from the early 1900s onwards those who had the means left for greener pastures. We see it now in most developing countries as well. Unfortunately that trend is accelerating due to more readily available means of long distance travel. The middle East and Africa would benefit greatly if their thinkers and ambitious folks would stay, but human nature dictates a want for a better life. Hard to build a better place if those most willing to do the work leave.
Ah the Austrian Hungarian empire. It was a weird place and hard to pin down in a sentence.
The education was excellent, and many wwii atomic scientists came from its former territory.
While also during the AH empire 1/3 of the citizens living in the kingdom of Hungary emigrated. Many were massively oppressed by the nobility and it went nuts gayer the war.
It's weird how many smart people came out of basically what is now considered nothing

I agree. Brain draining contires is doing them no favor. Like Kafir-kun said, don't let them stay. They need those people to start businesses or help businesses in their own places.

Yup, ditto. For me it happens when I have another video playing on my TV which is streaming from my computer. Yippee.

On a related note, I've been bingeing Rick and Morty three or four episodes at a time for the past few days, if you can still call that bingeing. I think it will be considered quite an important part of the cultural landscape in a decade or two. Big up to @22k, thanks for the advice on streaming media options. On a note related to the related note, y'all watching Avenue 5 at all?

I've heard conflicting reports so I hope you can clarify. What I originally heard was that they stepped down in support of the 2 officers who were arrested but then in another report I heard it was in support of the citizenry. What are the cops themselves saying? Anyone know?

@weed I could have sworn it was a different user had that nic but good on ya with the username change. LOL 4 fookin' days before I noticed it was you all along. Did you have a different AV or something or do I need to cut down on the drugs--a lot?

Anyway that advice was the shit.

So how about that community policing coming to Minneapolis?

haha I've always had this av for the longest (for the most part, it was originally a still, then @eBank made it into a gif, & then a few years ago I completely remade it by changing the colors, smoke etc.).

Some of the cops who stepped down are saying they stepped down because the union stated that it would not pay the legal fees of emergency response team (riot) cops who are sued in connection with emergency response team (riot) work, and they don't want to be sued. The union made the solidarity with cops statement, which some of the resignees disputed as described above. Reports about it being support of citizenry is, to my knowledge, the result of bad reporting.

Yep. There are ~240k deaths/month in the US normally. 50k from COVID on top of that is a ~20% increase in deaths/month.

So, you're saying they aren't protesting the cops being arrested for assault, but rather protesting that the union won't cover their legal costs if they get sued for police brutality? How noble.

Yes, in fact North Dakota has the highest testing rate by far and they are a red state. If anything their numbers might be more accurate.

They're not really protesting anything. They just don't want to be riot police if they have to pay the bills for a police brutality lawsuit.

Heard an interesting definition of fascism the other day:
When an empire in decline applies colonial tactics domestically.

I’m probably going to start thread this weekend to gauge how much longer people think this country has before going tits up.
