Kinda funny because it was the inclusive nature of the roman empire that allowed it to spread. The empire created the emperors, and the primary method of spread was that the local populations had something to gain by calling themselves romans. Eventually, the most competent leadership wasn't exactly roman from rome, and when those were blocked from becoming emperor they decided to sack rome instead.
Oh and they were all a bunch of lead eating waterheads, that might have had something to do with it.
Wasn't the same sort of true with Genghis Khan and the Mongolian Empire? They were absolutely brutal to those that opposed the conquest but for the communities that accepted Mongol rule and paid taxes they were basically allowed to rule themselves and the Mongols adopted a lot of the culture they conquered including religion
