Also, as an apex predator, it just kind of sucks.

I've always had a cat. And cats are unparalleled predators. They're faster, more flexible, more coordinated, more stealth, and more powerful (p4p) than any other animals by far. They're Jon Jones and everyone else is Tank Abbott.

Meanwhile, T-Rex's are just big and toothy.

Big cats are cool but the Grizzly Bear is considered one of the biggest and most impressive apex predators on the planet.... and even THEY run from Wolverines.

No shit? Recreational for me, so I never noticed if the pain went away, because I wasn't in pain. Pretty ridiculous that doctors prescribe PAIN KILLERS and that shit don't actually help for the pain. Talk about the ultimate irony.

All that shit basically has one function for most people: Makes you feel good enough to ignore the pain. With more minor pain like my knee surgeries, it was good enough. It hurt, but I felt good enough to walk through the pain. But major injuries? No dice. People do more and more of it and end up dependent.

Didn't want to derail the thread.

Jesus morphine and oxycodone didn't help?! Jesus. I used them recreationally so I don't understand the severity of an infected spine, but I'd like to know. Rather hear about this than the world going to hell in a hand basket.

Oh, it's pretty shit. Worst pain I've had in my life by a huge margin, and I've broken plenty of bones. I didn't even realise the potential for pain went that high. The baseline pain was enough to stop me moving, but then it'd come on like a cramp in the nerves of my spine. Leaving me involuntarily doing this choked screaming, panting and literally drenched in sweat. Completely crippling. Couldn't move at all for a few weeks and was stretchered out of my house off the balcony (2nd story) by the fire department.
Never found out what the infection actually was (samples failed to culture) or how I got it. I was on broad spectrum antibiotics for months. No trouble getting off the painkillers (one of which was also some sort of SSRI), but then I really don't like like them.

I dunno, I'm an idiot 30 year old feeding into the addiction, but you have the ability to flush xanax down the toilet.

I'm the same age as you, and probably struggled with shit for just as long. Maybe not the same shit, but nonetheless.

Like I said, you can always PM me if you need to talk. Addiction is no joke and you always have time to turn it around.

The effort to kill a wolverine isnt worth the reward.

Wolverines are 5x bigger than cats. But, regardless of whether a wolverine would or would not win in a fight against a similarly sized cat, it is not anywhere near as skilled of a predator as a cat. Cats' skills in the hunt, the chase, and the kill are second to none.

Like, mountain lions, tigers, and lions are cool but for me animals like the wolverine and Honey Badger who are SO MUCH smaller than the apex predators they run up against but give zero fucks and chase them off kills impresses the fuck out of me.

The way Grizzly bears are also total opportunists but ALSO can go sprinting at like 30 MPH impresses the shit out of me. An animal that is THAT BIG shouldn't move that fast.

And then there's stuff like this:

Just look at the size and ridiculous power those damn things have.

I love Steve Rinella's show MeatEater cause he goes Grizzly hunting in Alaska (never actually even points his gun in the episode) but is talking with his guide and another friend while watching them through a spotting glass:
"Man, I love watching Grizzly bears"
"Why?"
"You never know when they're going to do something cool"
"Like what?"
"I don't know, crush something's skull"

Wolves are the one predator I would wager could give big cats a run for their money in hunting.

Tigers and Jaguars and Leopards (Jags/Leopards being notable exceptions cause of how small they are compared to their prey quite often) are impressive but the way wolves will pick off like elk in a straight run and take them down is also impressive.

On a person pet standpoint I just can't do cats. Their brains are always in an alpha wave state so they view everything as prey and I've seen too many just randomly decide to claw the shit out of their owners and bite them. I much prefer big dogs like Malamutes and Akitas. You train them right they're more predictable to me.

EDIT:
I wish I could own like 20 acres in Wyoming with a nice 2-3 room cabin (like one bedroom, kitchen/living area, and a bathroom) on it where I could watch wolves walk across my property and hear them at night.

Jesus. Sorry man. That kind of pain is the shit that needs to be expressed to these nitwits protesting. This is not a racist thing. It's a pain and a corruption thing. We've all been through too much physical and mental pain brought on by the whole system. Race means nothing. It's all human pain and suffering that needs to be rectified.

Bears > big cats

Big cats eat bears, though. And the biggest cats wreck the biggest bears.

Verdict

“If a very large male bear fights a tigress or a small male, then the chances of victory will be equal or even slightly in favor of the bear,” says Aramilev.

But imagine two heavyweight rivals. Who would you put your money on? Naturalists, for their part, would back the tiger. But only for one reason — it is accustomed to killing.

“It’s all about the difference in feeding patterns. Tigers feed only on meat, and only on the meat of animals they kill, which is why they have more developed hunting skills. It knows exactly where to bite in order to kill its victim, how and where to strike with its paw,” explains Aramilev. Bears, meanwhile, are mainly vegetarian (plant food and fish) and scavenging; they do not hunt regularly. “It could be said that bears have forgotten where to bite, that is, lost the requisite hunting skills,” he notes.

Timofey Bazhenov, zoologist and presenter of the TV program Dikiy Mir (Wild World), offers this opinion: “I am often asked: If a tiger met a brown bear in the taiga, who would win? As a rule, the tiger!”

Pretty sure Gene would wreck all the tigers, bears and wolverines around. He used to be a feral cat in the jungles of Maui.

I've never understood previous bans coming straight to the WR on a new account instead of laying low for awhile in the Heavies.

Yea throw in some "Woodley was always overrated" arguing in the heavies and then not return for a longer while. Fresh start that thing. No one is joining The Dog to come straight to the WR, so it becomes too easily visible to the eye.
I never posted in the Heavies.

Honestly I don't understand this line of thought. Before making an account, wouldn't you figure anyone would have checked out the whole site and formed a favorite sub-forum? The WR is the only place here that has ever consistently piqued my interest.

I don't think I am who you think I am though. I am no one of consequence here.

Well, I live in Oz, so I'm not really going to comment on the reality of policing or racial injustice in the US. I do know that the videos of American cops actions aren't remotely like my experiences with police here in Oz. I don't really blame any of the physical pain I've been through on the system though. In fact the system provided my medical care with zero out of pocket expense (2% of my taxable income).
The spine infection was one of the relatively few times I've needed medical care that wasn't brought about by my own decisions (as far as I know).
