It's not obvious to me how the issue intersects with MMT (which I'm not a fan of, FWIW). I don't know enough about the issue generally to feel comfortable commenting much. But, yeah, sounds better to me, though I'm sure it would create a new set of problems (not necessarily a bad tradeoff overall). I would worry about the consistency of it. Like, if state universities were heavily reliant on federal money, and then whenever Republicans take office, it gets cut. Maybe if we paired the expansion with aggressive targeting of immigrant students who pay full tuition?

The connection to MMT was that (from my very casual understanding of it), that governments with fiat currency can basically use debt to pay for goods and services without much long term consequence so long as their demand doesn't cause the supply to go over capacity and inflate prices. So if the government wanted to use debt to pay for education, they'd want to do it in a way that doesn't cause inflation. Funding state schools seems like a more manageable option and could drive private schools to be competitive on price.
But yeah, the Republican's taking office and drying up state funding would be a huge problem.

Amount in different investment vehicles is a function of risk appetite. Stocks are moderately risky but provide good return over a long period, so Graves, as an old, will generally have a smaller % in stocks than you or I would probably benefit from.

Thx, and yeah. This is an entirely different level of devastation that I don't remember ever feeling before. The thought of doing the same actually crossed my mind a couple times earlier (reflexive scoff); haven't ever felt that way either, or at least not since I was a teenager. Holy Fuck.

I'm sorry for your loss. Hang on to your best memories and breathe deeply. You will make it through this if only because I know you don't take the people around you for granted. They will stand by you.
