Haven't played that one, but that's a lot like Ikari Warriors which I played a bit. My favorite shooter back then was the unique "Cabal" which controlled movement with a big trackball, and there was only side-to-side movement. It had a good port to the NES too.

I remember that! Played that shit down at the Circle K.

Yeah, I played Ikari warriors and Cabal. Cabal was a cover shooter right?
Midnight Resistance was my favourite of twist-grip type (came out in a year or two later I think), although it was a side scroller.
Takes me back.

Okay, cover shooter makes sense as a name for that genre. It was essentially Space Invaders in that respect. Arcade nostalgia, good times.

Dexter is P4P the worst ending in TV history.

It's almost as if the writers just gave up....and said "fuck it."

the only worse ending I can think of , is if Dexter woke up, and it was "all a dream."

Show should have ended after Lithgow's season, with Dexter holding his blood-covered baby. The series would have been bulletproof.

Almost everyone I know acknowledges Dexter was an amazing show that peaked at the end of season 4 with the Trinity killer and then just took a cliff dive after. The plan was for season 5 to be Dexter being outed as a serial killer and Deb chasing him down and the series ending with Dexter getting the death sentence and seeing all the victims he murdered before he faded out. Perfect fucking ending and would've made the series itself ranked far higher in the long term.

But Showtime was like, "wait, your killing him off now? Fuck you, we can milk this four more seasons and make him a lumberjack!"

You can even tell how bad the change was by the very start of season 5. We saw season 4 he says to deb at the end with cops arriving "I'm a murderer". Season 5, Deb just is like huh, that's odd and goes on to become a completely pointless character for the rest of the series.

That whole thing pissed me off with Showtime and will always be the reason they are shit tier to HBO. Execs shouldn't have that much power over where a show goes and they completely ruined Dexter. I don't trust them with shit if it comes to a drama now. Not unless it is completely finished and people say it was great.

Ray's Supermarket for me. No problem, Mom, I love when you take 16 hours to pick out vegetables. Our 7-11 always had some crappy games.

Our 7-11 was also pretty decent with games. There was a sweet Desert Storm topdown that I played a lot of. Can't recall the name, though.

The first season was all about his meticulous planning to avoid detection. In later seasons we get stupid shit like him killing a guy at the airport and wheeling him out.

He killed a guy in the police station, on camera, and they let him just walk out!

Yea, it got very comical eventually. I liked how Season 6 or 7 (Doomsday Killer) had a twist that everyone already knew like 5 episodes ahead of time. They did a ton of stupid stuff to just make people even more mad. None of those writers should be hired again.

For anyone who liked the movies, this show is fuckin' great!!! If not, it still great! Haven't seen season 3 yet though.

The sense of humour evolved a fair bit over the movies, which one is the series closest to?

Overall the vibe is closest to 2. Far more fun than 1, but not as goofy as 3. Lots of gore that has you laughing. Great one-liners by Bruce. Very reminiscent without feeling like it's ripping itself off, although it does borrow. Like going back to the old cabin and some of the same shit happening.

For the record, I thought 1 kinda sucked, 2 is a GOAT of campy horror, and 3 was disappointing. I went into the series thinking I'll check it out for old times' sake and didn't hope for much. Boy was I pleasantly surprised.

You're talking about the old guy being dead and a product of Colin Hanks's imagination right? I didn't remember his nickname was Doomsday Killer.

I rewatched seasons 1-5 last year and had a blast. Season 5 wasn't remotely as bad as I remembered it, kind of decent actually. I wish I could go back in time and tell people who thought the show had gone to shit with Lumen "oh boy, are you in for a ride"...

I made it to a few episodes into season 6 (Doomsday Killer arc) but just couldn't go on. Bummer because season 7 was kind of good at one point (I think it was the middle part, before Ray Stevenson bit the dust). I just can't imagine myself rewatching the last season and the ending. Ever. It sucks when long running shows go that way because as a fan you're kind of taken hostage and forced to see it all the way through. It's like cutting it short would still be a better form of closure than whatever abomination the writers could come up with but you still watch it for some reason. It's really really weird.

Completely agree that the series is excellent. I surprised at your opinion of the original film though, I think it's a classic, especially considering the micro-budget and the complete inexperience of Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell, and the rest of the cast and crew.

Maybe it's because I saw 2 first and it blew my mind. As I recall, 1 seemed more serious and just nowhere near as much fun.

Yeah, I agree. One played it straight (although I liked that), 2 camped it up (I was pissing myself laughing when he stabbed his own severed hand with the "Who's laughing now?!" line), but three seemed more like mainstream comedy.
Might check out the series.
