On the first pass I thought season 2 was the weakest but it's grown on me as I've rewatched it.

I also seem to be the only person who enjoyed the newspaper and fake serial killer story

Season 2 was fucking great. Just a bit slow at first as it kind of feels the show starts over at the beginning.

He was trying to cover the whole city of Baltimore though.

And since it was season 2 we don't even know if they were really trying to go for a story continuity approach.

They may have gone back because Season 2 got a cold reception.

Not to mix the wire and walking dead together in the same discussion but that was their original idea to have seasons with completely different people. They changed their minds after the pilot though. Probably the right choice considering how many people keep watching that show.

I wish anthology and spiritual sequels were more common. They very rarely get past top brass because of the financial incentives of direct sequels.

American Crime and True Detective are both good, but only the latter really retained its success - and still not to the tune of the first season.

This reminds me of one of my Dad's friends.

He was big time gardener and always had an immaculate yard.

He had a neighbor move in nextdoor one year and pointed out to the neighbor that his lawn was being overrun by dandelions which are thought of as weeds around here.

The neighbor told him he didn't mind because he liked the color they provided.

So my dad's friend snuck into his yard at night and weeded the entire yard lol

On behalf of my generation: guilty as far as not getting Bo Jackson.

In football, he played four years, never made an all-pro team, never rushed for a thousand yards, and only made a single pro bowl and did so undeservedly.

In baseball, he was a career .250 hitter with a single All-Star appearance as his only accolade.

I can only be so persuaded by genetics and raw physical potential.

Missed this earlier but as I'm sure you're aware he was splitting his time between 2 sports and you wonder how good he could have been if he picked one sport. He also had a crazy freak injury.

He also played in a bit of dead ball era in Baseball and was a makeup to an ATG in football (Marcus Allen).

I think he would have been an ATG in football but baseball was his first sport which makes sense since it paid a lot more at the time. And the injury happened in football.

@Jack V Savage what are your thoughts on Bo in baseball?

American Horror Story went that route too. It wasn’t til the last episode, I was like “wtf, how are they going to continue this series”. I’m a huge fan of single season shows. Even when they aren’t and seem like they completed the story, I’ll stop watching at that point. The industry has lost its way in storytelling because of the financial incentives like you said. Why ever give something an end when you can milk it for every last cent? It’s frustrating but I just try to look at the groups that have burned me in the past and just refuse to watch any of their stuff going forward. Storytelling should have three acts. Most showrunners don’t even know the last two acts when a pilot becomes a hit. It’s fucked up.
