Watch Henry Rollins interviews from the 80s and 90s. Lol the dude was so intense I don’t see how you could hang with him for more than 2-3 minutes at a time.

He’s mellowed a lot over the years. Also black flag was never good.

Holy shit. Thanks for articulating your frustration.

What personally got from Henry's talk was his appreciation for cultural immersion and his fearlessness for seeking out the perspective of the commoners who would likely do the average tourist harm. That to me produces a wellspring of growth and understanding. That he bridges the potentially violent gap wot I his optimism and goodwill is inspirational.
I agree and kinda disagree. I 100% agree with cultural immersion. I often critique "woke" liberals because even in New Orleans you can tell they're scared of being a minority.

When I first moved here I was at a Big Freedia show twerked on so hard against a wall my head was bouncing like a basketball lmao.

Henry is a real role model of mine for the reasons you outline. Why travel if you're not going to immerse yourself. I loved the time I spent in Rosarito and Tijuana, the thought of a place like Cancun doesn't really interest me, as a traveler of course.

As far as bad things happening to tourists, I live in a neighborhood where unfortunately tourists are notoriously taken advantage of. I don't mean to victim blame, but there's a combination of fear and naivate that contributes to being targeted.

You should really really check out Henry Rollins episode of Ari Shaffirs "Skeptic Tank" it's incredible.

Speaking of Rollins I watched Johnny Mnemonic for the first time last night (crazy, given my love for cheesy sci if and cyberpunk movies). Holy shit, it was amazing. So much cheese. So much overacting. So much cyber-ness. Keanu owned the 90’s. Not counting DeNiro because that’s not really fair. Pitt, Cruise, and Gibson have an argument. Ok, maybe “owned” is too strong, but he had a good decade.
Point Break
Dracula
Speed
Johnny Mnemonic
Chain Reaction
The Devil’s Advocate
The Matrix

So, who wants to admit they've purchased something from the Sherdog store?

Btw, they need option to add personalized usernames to the back of the shirt.
I’m waiting for the War Room “Choose a Side” speedos to come out.

Also black flag was never good.

There was a brief moment. But we got Circle Jerks instead so fuck yeah.

Rollins is an amazing person.. I met him the first time when he did spoken word at my friends college.. he hung out like 2hrs after just like 5 of us talking about everything .. next time i met him in nyc and we had a beer (it was a club) he remembered me from the college! (i do have 60+ tattoos) we bullshitted awhile and i couldnt say more about how nice he is and knowledgeable on so many topics

Love that fucking movie

Wow I asked the right person lol.

And that's exactly how I felt - more upright than even high bar which was unexpected. I really just grabbed the safety bar fer teh lulz and because proper bars were being rationed due to lockdown restrictions.

Thanks! I'm going to work on this on the side and try to make up for some deficiencies. I've previously been injured right where the discomfort was and would like to test out that area a little more.
Glad I could help. If you do front squat consider it more like that, the knee and hip angles should be similar to a front squat.

The “safety” part of the title can be misleading; I’ve known very experienced powerlifters who suffered injuries trying to go too heavy with the safety bar squat. It’s safer for your shoulders and arms. But yeah the key is to treat it, and at least at first to load the bar, like a front squat. It can be tremendous for building those front squat muscles though because it’s just way more comfortable than a front squat once you’re used to it.

One big difference between a safety bar squat and a front squat is that there is not only a vertical gravitational pull, but also a slight horizontal pull that is absent in all other barbell squat variations. It’s maybe most like a goblet squat in that respect. Bottom line I guess is treat it like it’s own unique variation that it is and don’t expect it to be like a high bar squat which is what most people go into it thinking of it as. You don’t want to pull those handles down into your body because that will cave your upper back down. Try actively holding those handles in a static position and fighting against that tendency to compensate at the upper back.

Says the guy who never hung out with @Andy Capp.

Seems like a good dude the last few decades. His younger self was not someone I’d hangout though. The dude was a lunatic straight edge maniac. He was just way too intense to enjoy

pretty sure we all go thorough an "angsty" phase... i played drums in a pantera/ anthrax type band and got my first tattoo at 16 had longer hair than my sister (chicks loved it) ...
just look at people in college right now all full of piss and vinegar .. give em a few years paying their own rent and finding a real job and most people understand the rose tinted glasses come off

The liberal vs leftist conversation a thread or 2 got me thinking what are all the political labels and their antithesis?

I could probably Google this but that no fun.

Easiest is left vs right so

Left vs Right
Progressive vs Conservative ?
Liberal vs illiberal? (Seems easy enough)
Authoritarian vs Libertarian or Anarchist?
Reactionary vs Woke?

What are the different labels and what do they mean?

Is this topic thread worthy? Lounge worthy? Or should I just get back to twitter memes?

Ex.fucking.cuse me?

They're actually pretty low on my totem pole of hardcore but they're still iconic.

Millions of Dead Cops, Bad Brains, Gang Green, System Society Decontrol, Minor Threat, Circle Jerks, Cro-Mags, I'd put them over the Misfits though. I always preferred Morris to Rollins as a singer for Black Flag, but they made some bangers and their influence on hardcore and pink in general is not to be understated.

There was a brief moment. But we got Circle Jerks instead so fuck yeah.

Cool, brother. Which part of this post is disagreement?

Just the small disagreement about the dangers vs tourists lol, everything else is spot on.

I still remember his old stories about his war against Iggy Pop and how he was kicking The Cures flower pots everywhere lmao.

Speaking of music Manchester Orchestra, one of my all time favorite bands just dropped a new video for their new album 21 hours ago. I'm a big fan of concept albums and albums that tell a story. Their songs are pretty fucking dark and lyrically they're at the top of the list for me. I highly suggest having song lyrics breakdowns if you dig into their discography

Right by the entrance, you broke
Finally, reality's taking its hold
You're not who you were, but you can't let it go
You're not where you're from, but you're always alone
So I stick a flag in the ground
I think I know who I'm living for now
I am what I am, same above as the ground
It's not what I want, but I'm figuring it out
