Social War Room Lounge Thread #325: PotWR Edition

No. Even though I was labeled as such with AI I'm pretty much conservative. Although if you would label interest as avoiding extremes I don't think I do go to extremes in my viewpoints. I think the pieces that you miss with labeling is that I'm for things like gay marriage while being against trans athletes. That's why it is pretty complex just to label. On the left you have to almost believe every single piece even the fringe In order to be considered the left right now. That's why it's hard to even be centrist in that party. But I think most people consider themselves reasonable on both sides and avoiding the fringe. I think the definition of Fringe is where they get hung up. I also think that the majority of America is in the middle.
Well you voted for a far right candidate so I'd say you're at least comfortable with right wing extremism if not actively in favor of it.

Hey @Islam Imamate things are compressed into the middle of my screen on this site. This room is a 6-inch column right in the middle. Did I hit some weird mode button somewhere? This started late last night so I just signed off thinking it was a glitch.

Islam doesn’t believe anyone can be centrist

Where did I say that?
You say it consistently.

Dont like my declaration? Okay, I apologize for being rude.

Do you believe people can be centrist? If so, what positions and voting history can that have to qualify?

I’ve voted for democrats and republicans both federally and locally. I didn’t vote for Trump in 2024 and write in my ballot more often than not.

I listed out historically left positions that I hold and you said “well, you’re really a crunchy conservative”.

There seems to be no convincing you that centrists exist.

Change that to right-leaning then. My post still stands. Not trying to stir shit. Just an observation.
I mean, if the qualification to be a centrist is to be perfectly down the middle, perfectly balanced, that’s very difficult.

I would say I could be rightfully called center right, the AI called me center left.

I would call myself an independent who doesn’t identify with either party.

Then you would label the majority of America right there with me haha. You do this All or nothing thing. You know how few Americans are for open borders like you claim to be? I think The Fringe In some cases lies with you. Including catching more minority votes than any Republican and many many years your entire argument doesn't make sense

Only if you vote for Kamala. <shadface>

The majority of America is in favor of, or comfortable with, far right extremism.

You heard it here first!

Can you quote one such post?

Uh sure.

Of course in theory but in practice most posters and people who say so obviously lean right and claim to be centrist as a way to shift the Overton window to the right.

I think you listed some perfunctory populist positions but in practice your posting is very consistently to the right in terms of your policy and cultural priorities and you're fast more critical of the left, even the center left, than you are of the right.

But at this point I think you're just trying to troll me. Don't usually like to accuse people of that but Mr Holmes admitted his centrist shtick was trolling so I'm guessing there's a chance its true of you too.

Trump didn't win a majority of the vote though, he won a plurality.

He won the popular vote. That means that every single person in that group including all the minorities are some far right extreme? You see what I mean ...you fail to be honest about what happened and realize that Kamala was a horrible candidate and no one wanted to vote for her including many minorities.

In this instance I was speaking of a specific poster that is clearly on the right. IMO the Overton window has been shifted to the right significantly, so center-right now would be solidly right a couple of decades ago.

Yet he’s accusing me of trolling.

It’s interesting to hear you say that. I would say the opposite to be honest. The left has shifted so far left, on the whole, that anyone who would have been center left center or center right, to a person on the left, seems like they are far right.

Take the trans issue, 15 years ago, saying men are men and are always men and can never be women, would have been a position held by 99% of the country. Now, to someone on the left, that’s hate speech.

Maybe it's just perception, but I am pretty sure this is a measurable thing and I seen graphs that show how it has steadily shifted right. SHRUG. I'll look into at some point.
