War Room Awards 2016

It was a good discussion on Mir's record, and it started when someone nominated me for Best Poster but added that she disagreed with me about Mir. I just asked why and clarified my own position. Lots of HW trolls try to assert that I think he's a bum, but my actual position is that he peaked as a mid-level contender, was a really exciting fighter, and lasted a long time as a relevant guy. Possibly top 20 all-time at HW.

Also, that was Page 1 if you have your settings done correctly, and it only lasted a few posts.

It's interesting that people's political stances don't change more, as we often see huge changes in the center. Like, a couple of months ago, "conservatives" claimed to believe that budgets should always be balanced and that austerity was the way to drive growth (a claim that is equivalent to creationism or climate-science denial). But now lots of them are talking about priming the pump and how we need stimulus. A few years ago, the right was extremely religious, but most have now flipped on that. Etc.

If your own views are consistent, how you define yourself will change. Look at all the WR right-wingers trying to excommunicate Pan, even though he remains a conservative Republican, because he hasn't suddenly changed his beliefs now that a new faction has become dominant on the right. I've also been getting leftists trying to claim I'm not *really* one of them because I don't agree with the growing influence of a particular segment of the left movement.

The flip that has me scratching my head is the stance on Russia.

Romney said they were our biggest geo-political threat in the world and everyone laughed at him.

Since 2012 his stance has been vindicated and for some reason now Putin is no big deal when he's been as active as he's ever been.

Yeah, what we're seeing is a different faction take control of the right-wing movement. Previously, the dominant one was pro-business, claimed to be the True Inheritors of the founding tradition, had a positive view of projecting American power because America is the greatest country and everyone benefits when we're stronger, and was very religious. That one failed hard in essentially all areas under Bush and was thoroughly discredited (though obviously they're still around and pretty influential--seems like about half of Trump's cabinet is going to be those types, and they're still dominant in the Senate). But the emerging new dominant right-wing faction is internationalist.

I have created and meticulously indexed quite a few mega-threads in the WR these past two years, many of which resulted in some very productive discussions even beyond my expectations, and I can confirm that every single "contribution" that you have ever "contributed" in the middle of those debates were utterly and complete worthless random one-liners that consistently have absolutely nothing to do with the topic themselves.

As the useless anti-thesis of Zankou and possibly the lazier brother of 99Silva, I'm certain that even if you don't win this year, you certainly will be the front-runner for Worst Shit Poster in many years to come.

Most Rustled Award just got a little more competitive too, it seems.

This place is the best.

I don't get the idea here. Are we saying there are going to be 6+ threads with polls of the noms? Do we really need to do them all. I was just thinking best poster would make it up and then maybe a mention of those mentioned for the other awards. This is a bit excessive doing it the other way.

LOL, you're making it more complicated than it is. :D

The way I did it was simply tallying up all the nominations for the official categories, then put the Top 2 Finalists from each category into the same multi-vote poll (which would be added to the nomination thread).

@Limbo Pete listed out 9 categories in the OP, and those are generally what others went by when sending in their nominations, which means there are 18 choices total, if this forum software could accommodate that number.

Example of what the poll would looks like:
1) Best All-Around Poster: Panamaican
1) Best All-Around Poster: JDragon

2) Worst All-Around Poster: Lead
2) Worst All-Around Poster: Petey

3) Best Thread-Starter: Rod1
3) Best Thread-Starter: GhostZ06

...and so on.

Of course, this is assuming that this year's nomination would actually lead to an actual vote, rather than slowly fizzle out after turning into a brawl like the previous years. o_O

You guys are taking the fun out of it by trying to make some official vote.

Still wondering who has the most WR likes and most likes per WR post. Sounds like a pretty good way to settle a popularity contest.

Only 15 options are allowed. I would remove the negative options (shit poster, etc)

It would be nice to have sub forum metrics like most posts in a certain sub forum only or like you said likes per war room post. You can't even see overall most posts past the top 20 I believe.

Are you saying the Sherdog team lacks the database acumen to extract this information? :D:(

Who knows. I just miss seeing where I was in the top 100 post wise and seeing me pass some of the regulars I remember when I started but who have stopped posting since.

Yeah. Categories, metrics, votes, tallies...there shall be no merriment at the polling stations! Nein nein nein!

Sounds very regimented, and formal. This should be a social thread, with good natured shit talking that devolves into murderous rage. Dammit.

I thought this was just about seeing who other posters nominate for whatever. Making official categories where we all vote seems pedantic, and just like everything else in here, will quickly turn partisan.

Here's a category I like: Who is the best poster of those you thoroughly disagree with.

I have always enjoyed @Caveat, and @Voodoo_Child906, and though we disagree on mostly everything, we have always, at least in my opinion, managed to have pretty good discussions.

I know very little about this new forum software, but it's true that more established boards like phpBB and vBulletin make those forum metrics (and much more) readily available.

It certainly interesting to see who the biggest post whores are for each subforum, though it's already given that Wadtucket clicks on that Like button most often :D
