Wanderlei Silva gets lifetime ban

4-7 in last 11.

At least he went out on win! C-yea later Vanderlai

Yeah...he was past his prime before he went to the UFC but he still was dangerous and had big wins here and there.

He was brutally KOed in his last 2 fights in Pride and went 4-4 in his last 8 Pride fights before joining the UFC.

In his last 5 UFC fights though he went 3-2 with 2 Top 10 wins over Bispign and Stann so he actually showed somewhat of a resurgence even though he was clearly passed his prime. Also 3 of his losses very close. The 1st Franklin fight he should have gotten the decision in and then he came as close as you could to KOing him in the rematch but got outpointed overall

i wish wanderlei could fight again but if i was the ac, i would ban him too

if they aren't harsh as fuck on people avoiding tests, everyone will try to avoid tests and pretend its a misunderstanding.

and since wand retired anyways, there's no cost to making such a judgment

how can they fine him a percentage of his presumed fight pay that he was never paid because the fight didn't happen?

sounds kind of crazy. i think jon jones' fine of $50,000 was too much as well.

i don't care that both of these guys are millionaires. i don't remember any boxers getting any big fines for fighting at press conferences. that happens a lot!

ok real quick...If Wand was to run off to Brazil they cannot get a Brazilian court to put a lien on any of his assets (Brazil does not have a financial reciprocity agreement with the US); however, Wand does own part of a gym in Vegas and he does have a house, cars, etc... so they will get their money. And for the ban, nothing makes a court (whether a Judicial or an Administrative which the NSAC technically is) more ticked then not being shown respect (hmmm see a pattern) so if you blow them off, act like their orders don't mean anything they will hammer you.

Overeem came back and took the test idiot.

WAAH all you want.......fucking awesome decision.

He still ran though idiot.

You want to play that game idiot?

I like Overeem. Not bashing him idiot.

They did the same thing and Overeem only got 9 months idiot.

Wanderlei offered to take a test like Overeem did but when you know a test is coming it is pretty pointless idiot.

The situations were very similar idiot. Even an idiot like you should be able to comprehend that....idiot.

I gotta say something isn't computing here and reeks of corruption.

Wand banned for life. Very first problem with drug testing.

Vitor? Multiple failed tests. Fighting for the title in Vegas.

You would figure especially the scrutiny and suspicion Vitor was under all this time ,and gets caught red handed they would have been far more harsh compared to a first time offender.

I don't think any objective person can say this logic computes at all.

Im pissed, why a lifetime ban? Why not 2 years? Didnt nick diaz skip out years ago? Why dont they fucking ban positive tests then. Me and mma are on the fritz today.

lol at people saying he doesnt have to pay the fine. wanderlei vs the attorney general sounds like a great fight for him. who do you guys think he is up against? hope he has a lot of money to burn. either his attorney is terrible or just suckering him in for the money.

NSAC should ban themselves for life. From life. Bunch of disgraceful human beings. Wanderlei went out before this ludicrous decision thankfully. MMA legend. Sad to see but glad to see he went out before the Ken Shamrock stage.

Boohoo the sports commission punished a drug cheat for being a drug cheat. NOW HE WON'T BE ABLE TO DRUG CHEAT, THOSE ASSHOLES!

Don't they know that philly253 wanted to see wandy get a new face knocked off of him? Why the hell did they think they had to do their jobs punishing drug cheating steroid monkeys just because they were deliberating on what to do with a drug cheating steroid monkey?!

Yeah i do want to play that game. He came back and took the test when told by the NSAC he would get in a shit load of trouble if he didn't take the test. The fact that he returned and took the test is the reason he only got 9 months (should have got 12 but whatever).

Wand just ran and fled to brazil to make sure he couldn't be tested. He got exactly what was coming to him.....so suck it.

I doubt this is a matter of corruption, they just saw that Wand was retiring and decided to give him a disproportionate punishment as a stuint of sorts. It's worth highlighting they never said it was a "lifetime" ban, rather an "indefinite" ban.

They are a state commission that has the power to levy fines. They do have that power.

How can they have any jurisdiction over him if he didn't even sign a bout agreement? This fining him thing is just for show. He is also only banned in Nevada for life.

Hopefully UFC will release him and he will got to Bellator and fight in other states or countries not named Nevada.

I think it's obvious by now that NSAC takes orders from zuffa brass on some level. If it's a fighter zuffa needs to market etc, like vitor in his fight vs chris, or reem, or even multiple offenders like chael, they go easy. Wand pissed off the zuffa brass by badmouthing the company and as a result suffered the worst penalty for something that doesn't even make sense.

he didn't even apply for a license from NSAC. Under what grounds did they have a right to test him?

Bahahaha. Well deserved.

Hopefully his `I stand with Wand` bullshit campaign has been exposed for what it was: a distraction. Preemptive damage control. But the damage has been done. Ducks Chael after talking shit, ducks drug testing and comes up with ludicrous excuses, and now is banned for life.

I love how one of his first supporters in his `campaign` was fucking Babalu, a guy banned from the UFC for holding on to a choke when his opponent was already unconscious. Encapsulates the absurdity of the whole thing, really.

No Babalu got kicked out of the UFC for holding onto a choke until the guy was unconscious. Big diff.

What's absurd is that they obviously wouldn't be doing this shit if he wasn't retired or at the tail end of his career anyway. Also it is completely disproportionate. There are guys they license who have KO'd refs and shit. This is them making a statement that rings hollow due to the circumstances.

If he had just taken the test and failed he would have got 6-12 months....he ran, so tough shit.

How can they have any jurisdiction over him if he didn't even sign a bout agreement?

Then what would stop fighters from signing the bout agreement a day before the fight after they've already cycled off?

They are a state commission that has the power to levy fines. They do have that power.

They don't have the power to fine anyone they want, and there are also limits as to what they can do in order to pursue payment. In both instances, I would say Wanderlei is out of their jurisdiction.
