I like the guy, he puts it on. Just pretty disappointed as a fan because that was his peak at age 30. Never say never, but there was a night and day difference how Topuria set up his power shots and Lopes just forced them. Lopes went out there like a prime Chuck Liddell. He was close to stopping Volk, but in between he was getting tagged.

Maybe a good 3 fights and he's 32, but I just think he needs to redo his striking game when it comes to setups.

I genuinely think he was "star struck" being in there with Volk. That's a learning experience. If he just trusted himself and his style, he very well could have won tonight.

What did you want commentary to acknowledge? Check the stats. Lopes didn’t land enough. Did you want them to glaze Lopes for walking forward and doing nothing but mean mug?

I meant he's 30 now, soonest turn around for title shot he'll be 32. I really thought he could've been a younger champ. My worries is that chin/power fighter build type fades early on. So I doubt even if he gets there at 32 it would be a short run.

Could happen. I just think he needs to mix it up more and implement his style rather than relenting to his opponents style and trying to beat them there. Could be a mental obstacle. He a powerful striker, but he's a grappler, why not threaten it? Hopefully he can be trained into changing his mindset.

Lopes had his shot, his saga is over. Very disappointed he sat back so much of the fight. Volk is old and way KO'd a couple times, he's a guy who fights to win decisions anyways so it was on Lopes. Either way I think have to move on to new contenders and Volk better have more of an answer to stay longer.

To lopes' credit, he was getting rocked in most of the early exchanges. he Probably felt like it would be dangerous if he pressed in those early rounds.

It wasn't a bicycle fight by any means. Volk was landing good shots regularly. Lopes is pretty good and proved he was worth the TS. His chin was too good for Volk but I think some of it was his posture keeping his chin down that was keeping him out of trouble when Volk was connecting.

3 fights is like 12 months for Lopes. He will get back there before Ilia gets a shot at 155, don't stress.

Ilia fought a different version of Volk. He fought a version that didn't hold his ground and throw back.
Lopes did alright, he just trusted too much in the big shot thinking Volks chin was done.

Ilia should have stopped drinking wine in the weightcut week and stayed at 145.
Instead he is sitting in purgatory at 155 with 2-3 more deserving guys ahead of him.

Lopes didn't throw enough, he needed to actually use that jab and or force more close exchanges and he wasn't able to. Volk fought smart and at times ran. It is what it is.

45 is kinda fucked for me now that volk is champ again. Hard to take it seriously when we all saw him get knocked dead and not get it back from the guy who did it to him. Obviously not volks fault and he did what he needed to do.

Give Silva the next shot and let me like 45 again. Think Silva is the next champ

But you cannot deny there were a few times where Volk was literally running from the FIGHT. It is a FIGHT you know.

And there were more than a few time where they both landed, and Lopes' was much cleaner and harder, and all we heard from Joe and Anik was "ooooooooooooooooooooo great left by Volkanovski!!!!".

Commentary was all over Volk's nuts. Yes, I agree he won. But just barely. Me finger flicking you 100 times should not make me the winner of the same fight where you sock me square in the jaw once and put me on my ass.
