Volk ran. Biased commentary

Diego just went in there looking for a finish, Volk went in there looking to point fight. Scores were correct but it’s still a shitty mentality to have and should not be celebrated.

What more could Diego do? Leg kicks, jabs, 2-3 punch combinations, takedown attempts, etc.

He had a moment or two where he hurt Volk, but other than that, he got shut down. Standing on the outside, waving him in, and eating shots without moving his head was not a good strategy. Seems like he choked.
 
Volk out boxed lopes in the pocket for the first 9 minutes of the fight and hurt lopes more than anyone else we've seen. After lopes landed hard, though, volk did stick and move. Interestingly enough, even while "running" he was clearly outstriking lopes and closed lopes' eye in those rounds. He gave a lesson on how to jab in those last three rounds.

He did use his footwork.

But you cannot deny there were a few times where Volk was literally running from the FIGHT. It is a FIGHT you know.

And there were more than a few time where they both landed, and Lopes' was much cleaner and harder, and all we heard from Joe and Anik was "ooooooooooooooooooooo great left by Volkanovski!!!!".

Commentary was all over Volk's nuts. Yes, I agree he won. But just barely. Me finger flicking you 100 times should not make me the winner of the same fight where you sock me square in the jaw once and put me on my ass.

I like how everyone here is suddenly a Taekwondo fan with the Carlos Condit slap and run fests.

I agree. We can chop it up to inexperience, but I can’t fault Lopes for going in there to land everything with fight ending intentions… He had the right mindset but I also think he could’ve adjusted and spammed some busy work like Volk.

That being said I can’t give Volk or his mediocre team a pass for going in there with that loser mentality to stall the fight lol. They were literally telling him to spam the single/wall n stall in the 5th to prevent them from fighting, that sort of stalling behavior shouldn’t sit well with fans.

lmao they literally called every shot lopes landed. you're the one with blinders on.
 
Lopes had his shot, his saga is over. Very disappointed he sat back so much of the fight. Volk is old and way KO'd a couple times, he's a guy who fights to win decisions anyways so it was on Lopes. Either way I think have to move on to new contenders and Volk better have more of an answer to stay longer.

Volk did get into wild exchanges the entire fight though. He just chose when those were and Lopes didn't get to choose his so he lost. Notice how they were showing replays and everytime Lopes came crashing in, Volk was in the pocket landing multiple shots and winning the exchanges. The highlight of Lopes landing that great uppercut was also a highlight of Volk landing his own inside hook lol. Both looked great on the inside on replay.

I like the guy, he puts it on. Just pretty disappointed as a fan because that was his peak at age 30. Never say never, but there was a night and day difference how Topuria set up his power shots and Lopes just forced them. Lopes went out there like a prime Chuck Liddell. He was close to stopping Volk, but in between he was getting tagged.

Maybe a good 3 fights and he's 32, but I just think he needs to redo his striking game when it comes to setups.

They did give lopes some credit but the vast majority of the commentary was in lopsided in favor of volk. This was a close fight but not according to the commentary
