Volk benches 275lb 1 rep max

That’s insane for his size honestly. Islam wasn’t joking about his strength

Is there a video of this bench press or what? I looked at his YouTube and google searched “Volkanovski bench press” and can’t find anything about it.

Bench pressing is the most overrated measurement for "strength" in all of fucking sports. Kevin Durant struggled with like 185lbs for a few reps and dude can play as a center. Even for bodybuilding/muscle gains it is overrated as shit.

I can consider myself as "strong" and I haven't bench pressed in 8 years. Only weighted dips and military presses.

That said, Volk is strong as fuck regardless of his bench press

There's a reason Islam kept talking about his strength.

Yeah, he's definitely not over 180lbs between fights. He's said his walk around weight is usually around 77kg since being at 145lbs.

so basically he isnt 81.65kg between fights. He said his walk around is 170lbs since being at 65.77kg

For a 170 lb guy who has to make 145 and who's game heavily relies on speed and cardiovascular endurance, it's about as high you can get without entering genetic freak territory. 275 lbs is advanced lifter status for 170 lbs. 336+ lbs for Elite level powerlifters.

Side note: It seems most dudes here who Bench above 315 think it's such a pathetic number they could simply overpower the tiny man, but would more than likely have nowhere near the endurance to enter a sustained fight.

In the low 170's I Bench 315. That number would drastically go down if I had to shift my primary focus from lifting to MMA and cardio.

When he's not cutting weight I think he's in the 165-175 range so yeah having a max bench that's 100lbs more than you when you're that weight is very good, especially since Volkanovski has long arms which makes benching much harder.

I'd honestly say Volk isn't small, short? Yes. Sometimes it really boggles the mind how people don't understand size. Sure he's a Featherweight but proportionately? He's a fairly thickly muscled guy, he's 5'6 and walks around 170lbs in tip top shape, that's not small from a lifting perspective AT ALL. People who go to the gym regularly who are 5'6 170lbs can press 3 plates commonly (that's 315lbs) now Volk isn't a lifter, he's a fighter but he's not small.

Let me try to make a meaningful comparison, if Bantamweight Marlon Moraes could bench 275lbs I don't think anyone would he that shocked and Moraes isn't small, he's short but he's a fucking far ways off from being small from a lifting perspective. Now if Sean Omalley said he benched 275lbs I'd be super skeptical and if proven, very impressed...Omalley is SMALL.

You have to keep in mind Volkanovski has long arms and has great cardio and strength isn't the primary goal. For a guy with long arms and great cardio that's a really good max bench for his weight.

Not that impressive for 5.6ft guy who weights in easily over 180 lbs between fights.

For a 5'6 170lb professional athlete I'd say that's not impressive at all. It's a solid number for a normal gym goer, but there's highschool lifters his size who can press than 1x.

Bench pressing isn't that important in regards to fighting though, I'd argue squat and deadlift numbers mean more and they still don't mean a ton.

My friend and partner at work in 5"6 220 and benches 350lbs. He's literally thick as a stump. He's not ripped at all but his arms are so big he has to cut the sleeves of our smocks to put them on.

Lame strength. Paper champ for sure. Never was that good.

That is very impressive for a guy his size. You don't see many people benching that kind of weight

Im the strongest in my Dojo and seasoned black belts toy with me during randori

I do some nogi rolling and the better guys there usually have their way, though I find my strength translates better without someone yanking on my gi and pulling me off balance

Gym Strength matters much less than many think, unless there's a HUGE discrepancy

Size/weight actually probably matters much more

Considering he's not a competitive lifter and the fact he walks around 180 lbs, 275 is actually pretty impressive.
