Volk benches 275lb 1 rep max

Sherdog is becoming more ridiculous every day … “very average” … “not a good number” … “I can do more” … “just ok for a normal gym guy” … he’s benching 125kg, that’s more than most people in any gym - who are likely much bigger than little Volk and focused only on lifting - and especially that’s almost double his bodyweight, for an athlete who does not train powerlifting or bodybuilding but rather cardio and technique! It’s super impressive!

Please post your videos benching close to double your bodyweight. Ah yes, you don’t have any.

I can bench 100kg at a bodyweight of 78kg and as a martial artist - so not a lifter per se - I’m usually among the stronger people under 80kg bodyweight in any gym … and Volk does 25% more at 5% less bodyweight. He’s really strong in general and especially as a martial artist.

At 95kg I can bench 150kg and my arms are a good bit longer than Volks and I'm not even some gym rat, this isn't a great number but benching isn't an important strength to have for fighting.

He's an MMA fighter, and he's small, MMA fighters probably do no heavy weight training as being able to bench a lot won't help for shit when you're fighting in a steel cage,

yes it's impressive. I bet there are countless 300+ lb fatties on here who couldn't do a 175lb single rep.

I'd honestly say Volk isn't small, short? Yes. Sometimes it really boggles the mind how people don't understand size. Sure he's a Featherweight but proportionately? He's a fairly thickly muscled guy, he's 5'6 and walks around 170lbs in tip top shape, that's not small from a lifting perspective AT ALL. People who go to the gym regularly who are 5'6 170lbs can press 3 plates commonly (that's 315lbs) now Volk isn't a lifter, he's a fighter but he's not small.

Let me try to make a meaningful comparison, if Bantamweight Marlon Moraes could bench 275lbs I don't think anyone would he that shocked and Moraes isn't small, he's short but he's a fucking far ways off from being small from a lifting perspective. Now if Sean Omalley said he benched 275lbs I'd be super skeptical and if proven, very impressed...Omalley is SMALL.

Very impressive for a guy who's 170lb soaking wet who probably doesn't spend that much time lifting to begin with. Being able to bench your own weight is respectable, being able to bench your bodyweight by 1.5 is very good, anyone benching above 2.0 are both genetically gifted and dedicated lifters.

It's great considering he most likely doesn't dedicate a lot of training time to it. Even guys like Islam struggle to put up 255 lbs. There was also an old video of Khabib struggling to hit 225 for 2.They just don't bench press heavy often. You can honestly tell by how they lift.

I believe majority of 145lb and under fighters can't even put up 225 lbs. It's really nothing to be ashamed of. It's not like they can't learn how to do it.

How did you manage to get approved for an account on here with pathetic numbers like that?

Moderators?

Pretty average. He has T-Rex arms and has to move the weight like 2 inches

It probably shows the stupidity of a lot of MMA fans that they care and compare so much about what fighters are putting up in the weight room.

like MMA fighters somehow should be doing impressive numbers and rivalling powerlifters

How are people still confused after 30 years? MMA is NOT a strength sport. Cardio is the most important thing in fighting.

Say what you will about boxing fans, they don't care about how much boxers are bench pressing - because it's meaningless to the sport or the measure of a fighter.

That's just warm up weight for a sherbro.

In all seriousness though in terms of mma functional strength Volk is one of the strongest guys in his division! Weights aren't everything.

Reminds me of Tim Sylvia vs the world's strongest man. Tim knew how to use his body and weight and shrugged off the guy like he was a normal dude.

He has long arms so it’s pretty good considering he doesn’t train for bench strength.
This is sherdog. If you aren’t running 5 minute miles and benching at least 2x your weight, it’s NOT impressive.

we have alphas here on the Dawg. Shit, Volk could push the one poster above and he wouldn’t even move. Probably fucks Volk up too.

Doesn't really have T-Rex arms though, his reach is longer than Islam who is 5'11"

Looking at his career before UFC, it seems that he's being listed as 5'4'' quite a few times and his reach as 69'' instead of 71''.

MMA stats seem to all over the place in general, but most of the time fighters grow inch or two when it's apparent that they may have success in UFC, not shrink, lol.

Lots of this reach are probably broad shoulders anyway, so while 2 inches doesn't change that much, he definitely doesn't have some ape arms.

What matters is he seems very strong in his fights at the end of the day.

He held his own quite well against Islam who is the bigger stronger guy so I’d say he’s a strong person.
