Virtue Signaling in Gaming Megathread, v.2

He had the unfortunate timing of SBI being outed as the cancerous parasites they are, and was deemed guilty by association. It didn't help that the game isn't that good.

I saw an interview with him around launch, seemed like a good dude who just had a story he wanted to tell, a genuine passion project. I pirated the game to try before buying, as I was in a metroidvania mood. I was interested in the narrative, but the gameplay/level design was mediocre at best. I think I played for about 2 or 3 hours before giving up on it. Did you play it? I think i recall you saying you did?

Anyway, it couldn't have sold well because I just saw this post.

I cannot wait for the Woke / Brahmin vs proud African artist from a country with a booming (not South Africa) economy clash.

Twitch is about to get some negative national and international news coverage. Funnily enough, this is a byproduct of Asmongolds 14 day suspension:

And they deserve it. Their bias is undeniable.

Twitch denies Israel account signup block, but admits to ‘unacceptable miss’ around verification process

Twitch “deeply regrets” blocking account sign-ups in multiple regions for over a year

Israeli users have already posted screenshots indicating it wasn't a matter of verification. Otherwise you'd think Support would direct them to use email verification, not tell them outright they aren't permitted an account.

Successful game streamers have a typical arc. Starting off as this brash kid who slowly matures as the years pass. With Asmongold the opposite happened. For he's seen life changing success in two polar opposite streaming genres. Recently reverting back to his childhood traits of scraping by by any means with react content. While at the same time fostering a new community of hyper inflated like minded egos who must have a shared opinion on everything. Who then feeds him such content for reaction creating a persistent feedback loop.

Right now the community he has generated is lashing out at anyone who goes against this grain, including all OTK members. While Asmongold on his subreddit is virtue signaling this new community contradicting his apology video.
I always thought those videos were someone else using clips from his streams and matching them with random videos.

Most just seem like generic react videos that could be puit with any video to generate revenue through Youtube shorts.

Well all of this kicked off by Ethan dedicating a livestream calling out Twitchs hypocrisy of TOS enforcement surrounding Hasan and his community stemming from the Asmongold suspension.

Hmm, no outrage over this like there was about asmgold. Hmm...

Yeah. Twitch is known to loosely or not even enforce their ToS with specific content creators. Her time as a livestreamer on Twitch is numbered if she continues this rhetoric.

When Twitch got hacked a few years ago. It was discovered that certain streamers when they received a conduct violation. Community managers werent allowed to enforce it. Instead the case bounced to a specific executive who were in charge of maintaining their contract.

LoL.

When it comes to react content Asmongold is one of the better ones when it comes to talking about the video topic. Even though ive always claimed that react content is one of the lowest forms of content creation.

I stopped watching Asmongold during the World of Warcraft Battle for Azeroth expansion. The game was in such a bad state that his streams became nothing but him mainly watching YouTube videos about World of Warcraft.

I think we might be talking about different videos. Long form yes, but the little clips of him down the bottom reacting, always seemed faked to me.

You genuinely don't think this video could be put over literally anything?

We are. Back in 2009 on YouTube this style of reuploading to fool the algorithm became popular. Something YouTube quickly stopped for content creators complained about it. Today its the content creators rebroadcasting content they dont have licenses for. Who also dont DMCA reuploading their content since their business model involves unlicensed rebroadcasting for commercial purposes.

Short form content like this uses a con to limit react content creator liability. They partner with an independent editor who owns/controls the channel. Then said editor splits a minority share of profits towards the react content creator.

I thought that might be the case. I was referring to the video style I posted. My algorithm tries to sneak those in pretty regularly for different people, Asmongold included.

ADL reached out to Twitch. Now Twitch seems to be partially cleaning house. ADL's tweet:

For those like me who dont have twitter:
1/ ADL spoke with the u/Twitch staff today after becoming aware of several concerning incidents on the social media platform platform and/or involving Twitch streamers in the past week

2/ We appreciate u/Twitch making the right decision to finally suspend the streamer Frogan for abusing her platform and the u/TwitchCon event to spread antisemitic vitriol during this time of intense apprehension for the Jewish community.

3/ u/Twitch must learn from this situation and improve how they address antisemitism and hate on their platform, which is an ongoing and significant challenge. We encourage Twitch to take meaningful action, such as collaborating with the platform's Jewish community, providing

4/ We will continue to engage with the company to help ensure the platform is a safe, respectful and inclusive space for all. We will also continue to hold them accountable when they fail in that responsibility.

Frogan the individual that @My Spot posted about has been suspended for 30 days. Edit: Three other streamers who appeared on a Twitch sponsored panel with Frogan have also been suspended. Segment of the panel involved creating a tier list of other streamers from pass to fail. Pass were those who were muslim. Fail was directed at jewish streamers.

For those unaware Twitch recently unbanned Sneako and Fresh&Fit. Today they were permanently banned, again.

Dan discovered that the current Senior Manager of Twitch Trust&Safety Council was fired from her previous UK government job for antisemitic remarks:

This made me laugh. For all the money that's being thrown at these games, and all the vitriol towards people who don't want to buy it, it really comes down to the "modern audience" they are targeted for. Where are they, and how much money can studios in film, tv and games continue to lose before they stop pandering to this non existent group of consumers.

Not familiar with these people. Are there people coming to them to attack their game, or are they just mad it didn't sell or get made?

If they are just whining because nobody is helping them, or buying their product, then boo fucking hoo. If they are getting mad that kids are coming to their site and page and acting like fools, then I don't blame them for getting upset. I think these type of games are dumb, but let them be. Don't need to go to them to be an asshat.
