Who was the greatest?

Who are the bad guys we rooted for

Edit: Now with a poll! Left some open for suggestions

Note:

A Villian Protagonist is the bad guy in a story centered on him. I.E. He is the main character. Darth Vader was the Dragon to the Emperors Big Bad, but the prequels centered on him so he counts.

Jake Gyllenhaal in Nightcrawler.

The protagonist is typically the main character or story driver in a story. An argument can be made for Vader, particularly in Empire Strikes Back, as story driver but it’s still a tough sell.

For a bad guy to work as protagonist he must have redeeming qualities or at least be able to rationalize his actions to the reader or viewer. It’s amazing when it works. Think Tony Montana or Tony Soprano.

Edit: great call on Walt.

The predator in Predator, he was taking out drug lords and doing good work before the CIA got busted smuggling drugs and had to send commando’s in.

No Vic Mackey love? Tony Soprano?
