Getting to someone's back while standing does not automatically translate to submission finish. People are really not giving Alexa enough credit for how skillfully and quickly she put one of the best female grapplers in that dangerous position.

Val was getting ate up on the feet and immediately went to clinching/grappling with the accidental headbutt. Like she did last fight. Hit the new champ late and tried to choke her after the bell. Lol

Valentina looked a bit slower though. She didn't look prime.

Grasso was indeed lucky that Valentina made such a costly mistake. With that said Grasso was in the fight the whole time. She could have still pulled out rounds 4 &5 and won the fight.

Depending on if you believe what Grasso said, they trained specifically for that back take off a spin kick. The problem with Valentina sometimes, as has been mentioned here, is that she is a bit too formulaic at times.

Any one trying to paint this as complete dominance by Valentina and then a fluke mistake is wrong. Grasso had won at least around and damaged Valentina with strikes. It was a competitive fight.

Grasso has video footage of them drilling that exact back take off the spinning kick in the locker room right before they walked out, it looks identical to what happened in the fight.

Grasso is a terrible grappler, and Valentina is just as goofy for throwing that ridiculous kick.


This might be the weakest stable of champs in UFC history.

That goofy girl throws that ridiculous kick all the time, sometimes to good effect (see Holm fight). She just fought someone savvy enough to counter it well. Valentina should be on a two fight skid, which is funny cus if the Grasso fight was scored like 2 of the judges scored the Santos fight, then Val the Vanquished would have been down all 3 rounds before getting finished in the 4th.

Like when she “beat” Santos. Afterwards she did her best to downgrade Santos and ducked the rematch completely.
