"Waaaa!!! He said something bad to another poster!!!.."

What are u in 5th grade?.. lol

Trump and his gaggle of supporters are blaming the Democrats for the shutdown, BUT in 2013 Trump said the shutdown (at the time) was Obama's fault because the President is the person at the top.

------

Trump said a shutdown is ALWAYS the president's fault in 2013 interview as he now tries to pin the blame on 'obstructionist' Democrats

President Donald Trump is blaming Democrats on Saturday for the current government shutdown that went into effect at midnight.

But Trump himself is on record saying that the president should always shoulder the blame for a government shutdown.

During the last shutdown in 2013, Trump told Fox News that the responsibility for the shutdown rested with then-President Barack Obama.

Back then, the federal government ceased functioning for a total of 16 days.

Trump appeared on the Fox News Channel numerous times and was asked who was at fault.

'Well, if you say who gets fired it always has to be the top,' Trump told Fox & Friends in 2013.

'I mean, problems start from the top and they have to get solved from the top and the president's the leader.

Trump being a hypocrite AGAIN, what else is new. Just like how he criticized Obama for Golfing, but he has been Golfing quite frequently.

The 2 posters were engaged in a back and forth over the subject. The post you reported on was specific to his opinion on the content in the post he was responding to. He didn't threaten him. He highlighted the part of the post he was directing his comment to. We generally allow don't infract for that.

If there had been no prior exchange between them or if he had made some kind of insult that went beyond the generic type of insults you guys generally engage in then we'd do something. But since you reported him, we'll be watching the thread and seeing if there's repeat behavior.

Save it for someone who believes this garbage lol.

When people want to believe a narrative, it doesn't matter if you tell them the truth or not.

I've been on this forum for 15 years, people have gotten carded for that kind of direct flaming.

Like I said, save it for someone who's buying it. I'm just pointing out that that kind of posting is tolerated by the mods now. At least the lefties get away with it ;)

This is pretty rich.

In one breath you brag about sucking on the teat of big government, in the next "muh liberalz".

Not rich in the slightest. I work on government contracts as a software consultant because my employer is a government contractor.

I actually work for a living. No teat sucking involved.

I work for a living too. In fact, I don't rely on the Dept. of Defense which is the biggest implementation of bloated socialistic spending this country has ever seen.

You are dependent on a huge state apparatus for your livelihood.

But go on bitching about liberals and Democrats as if your side of the fence is at all concerned about smaller government and weening people off the necessity to rely upon it.

Nobody is happy about it. Trump was presented with a bipartisan plan, and rejected it. McConnell literally said that he has no idea what the president wants. The buck stops at the president, and not anyone else, especially when he is holding everything up for his stupid wall, despite his success in illegal immigration via enforcement.

Which is why I can't fathom how anybody can lay the blame here on Democrats, and to a degree, even some Republicans. In the past 10 days, Trump has said that: 1) He would sign a clean DACA bill; 2) that he wouldn't sign a clean DACA bill and it had to be attached to a budget; 3) that he would sign a bi-partisan deal presented to him; 4) that he wouldn't sign any bi-partisan deal.

Trump pretty much just agrees with whomever talks to him last. Unfortunately, the last two in this case were Cotton and Miller, who offered no plan of their own and just told Trump to walk away without anything in place.

And I can't see how his advisors let him take such a poor move. This was a really easy play for him: Agree to sign off on DACA and CHIP, both of which have wide bi-partisan support, in exchange for funding for border security (he's already backed down on a physical wall). This way Trump can say to his base that he made good on his immigration policies, and he can take credit for avoiding a shutdown and play up the whole "congress is dysfunctional" angle. But he kept changing his mind almost every 48 hours. So I'm sure McConnell was telling the truth when he said he had know idea what the fuck trump wanted. Now McConnell still has to take the blame for straight up lying about clean votes on DACA and CHIP. It's clear that he was willing to lie in order to keep what he thought was good card to play later. Problem was he handed that card to trump, and trump had no idea what the fuck to do with it.

People blaming anyone but trump for this whole mess are either lying in the name of partisanship, or just utterly uninformed.

I bitch about republicans and democrats because I am an independent swing voter. I've never advocated for drastically reducing government, never once. Ive also worked more years in the commercial sector than government contracting.

Even so, my current contract is for DoD's environmental research program. It's a drop in the bucket compared other programs.

You just can't sit back and let someone criticize the democrats without branding them as a stereotype republican. It's pathetic.

being dependent on a huge state apparatus for your livelihood is more akin to SS, unemployment, TANF/SNAP are you are literally doing nothing to receive those 'benefits' at the time (obviously people paid into SS and UI to be able to receive those benefits generally)

Actually being employed by one, and performing duties to receive compensation as a result are entirely different things. One can theoretically choose a different employer if the need ever came up......People begging for handouts can't, b/c well they're beggars. Public employees also pay taxes, so they are also funding themselves partly...

Then you have NAF employees, which DO NOT come from the Federal budget, so aren't supported by the general taxpayers at all. The vast majority of the DoD civilian workforce is NAF, not Wage Grade or Civil Service which do come from the budget.

I apologize if I was off-base.

However, the reason I painted you as such was your posts itt blaming Democrats for this when Republicans completely control Congress and the White House - that doesn't sound very nonpartisan to me.

It's all good. And yes, the repubs have a majority. However, while not 100% sure, I believe that even if every repub voted for the bill, the democrats would have still blocked it. The dems wanted a shutdown, and they got it.
