US Government Shutdown

If I'm just being honest with you, I believe those polls about President Trump's allegedly low approval rating, about as much as I believed the polls that Hillary Clinton was 10 points ahead in October 2016.

Polling has become little more than a political weapon in the 21st century.

Fair enough

First, you say the border is weak, but that isn't true.

Our border security is great already. Can it get better? Sure. But it's just pure fantasy that it's some great problem and an even bigger fantasy that it's weak. Immigration courts need more funding and so does the coast guard. A wall is probably near the bottom of the list at things we can spend money on to improve security. We already took care of that with the Secure Fence Act of 2006 anyway.

The number of illegals in the country went down this past decade. It went down.

As for the ones already here, we need to treat them as individuals. Any employed non-felon that has been here for 10 years or more should be given a chance to do the right thing and families should be preserved where possible.
bro, we have 10 million illegals in this country. is that sound like a secured border to you?

yeah, the number of illegals went down this decade because we spent most of this decade in a recession. it's no coincidence.

basically, I was right. you want amnesty to all illegals and weak ass border.

Bro, the majority of the 10 million illegals came into the country before 2006, when we signed the Secure Fence Act.

Bro, the majority actually came before 2001, before 9/11 and border security was enhanced across the board.

Bro, enhancing security on the southern border does nothing to help the problem we have with visa overstays, which account for more than half of all illegals.

Bro, you're wrong.

87% of the country is for DACA.

Only deal Trump can make is with porn stars. He is a fraud, sad!

"secured border" doesn't mean only a physical border in the southern border. a secured border encompasses hiring more CBP officers, more ICE agents, more border patrol agents, more vetting for visas, more fences/walls, etc.

and yes, Secure Fence Act helped with border security because I was one of the National Guard soldiers put up that fence in Yuma in 2006-2007, but it's still isn't enough.

btw, I thought you liberals don't believe a wall would help slowing the flow of illegals in the southern border, but now you are bring up the Fence Act 2006? Interesting.

That 87% doesnt paint the true picture. A MASSIVE % of the 87% support Daca but only with a wall, enforcement etc.

I believe we've already fenced and walled off the highest traffic areas years ago. If some more spots need some more fencing, sure go for it, but the idea that the entire border needs a concrete wall is ridiculous.

Illegal immigration was a problem when Bush was in office, but none of you cared this much then.

Why is immigration suddenly such big deal when the son of a Kenyan immigrant is President?

I'm not sure. did Bush grant amnesty/protection from deportation to 800k dreamers like Obama did?

Fed Govt employee here. Really hoping this shutdown happens, could use a lil vacay.

I think it is. Just got a last minute call that no one is to come in. Treating it the same way, vacay.

The last government shutdown same thing happened. Was getting my shit ready to head over got the same call not to head in. Vacay

It's always good to keep up with the latest:

https://www.agriculture.senate.gov/newsroom/press/release/farm-bill-ends-direct-payment-subsidies

This is from 2014, you're almost a half decade behind.

Yes you've enjoyed the great life till recently. Now we are just paying your insurance premiums.. about 9 billions worth of tax payer dollars per year.

Must be great partaking in our tax dollars and yet still bitch and complain when others need it for other things (like health care for example)..

Millions entered the country on his watch.
not his fault when he did his best. the economy during bush's years was good = incentive for illegals to come over. he did hire about 15,000 additional border agents and put up the fence during his term to boost up border security.

That 87% doesnt paint the true picture. A MASSIVE % of the 87% support Daca but only with a wall, enforcement etc.
62% oppose the wall, only 37% support.
DACA plus more border security (not wall), 65% support and 27% oppose.
86% support DACA, 11% oppose

That is a better picture for you.

That's partially my argument.

These shutdowns prove that our government is perfectly capable of being smaller. The ONLY reason it doesn't happen is because too many people make their living off of other people's taxes.

Yes sir.

Did someone hit you in the head with like 8 fastballs in a row? The GOP has the house, senate and the white house. It's all on them at this point.

Mitch McConnell flat out said that he has no idea what the president wants. The President was presented with a bipartisan plan, and he rejected it. John Kelly then met with Republicans and Democrats on a plan, and apparently said they had come to an agreement on a framework. He then, out of nowhere, decided to meet with hardliners in the party who rejected it.

It's on your daddy, bitch. Your daddy is so pathetic, he's spent a third of his entire year golfing, and skipped town on a thursday night. Just admit it, you're a whore, and your pimp is also a bottom bitch.

You guys realize that the Republicans control the Presidency, House, AND Senate, right?

How can this possibly fall on the Democrats? Literally every single Democrat in Congress could dig in and it still wouldn't be enough, you dolts.

You do realize this isn't a simple majority needed, but a supermajority with democratic support in the senate, right? Thought not.
It was evident by your "enlightened" posts.
Before looking down your oh-so-smart noses at others, you might want to verify you know your ass from a hole in the ground.
Here, you did not. Plainly.

And Hillary is up 30 points, right? Hahahahahahaha!!! Nobody believes fake polls, anymore. That ship has sailed.

It's not Obama's fault then either.

He deported more than any other President in history.

Ya, splitting families is the best option. Ripping families apart. Definitely the best thing to do
They split their own families through illegally residing in US. Should we not jail criminals for their crimes because it might split them from their families? Actions have consequences, and illegally entering a country should also be the same. You do not reward illegal immigrants with citizenship. What is preventing the next alien crossing the border with his kids knowing he can't be deported because families?

it's his fault to pass the DACA. Remember what happened in 2012 after he passed DACA? 24,000 undocumented minors showed up at the US/MX border, 2-3 times the number from previous years. It was not a coincidence.

Of course illegal aliens will show up at your border if they know you don't mind.
