Unsigned Heavyweights - Thread Two

so you want a 3 fighter list basically? lol Europe and other countries are where the real heavys are at unfortunately

America and Europe, Brazil has been severely lacking in HW talent these days.

I could probably do about 20 American fighters on a list if needed, but half the list would be very sub par.

As for Brazil, I'm going to do a quick rundown of the Brazil HW scene in a reply to this post in the next day or two. Unfortunately most of the proven HW's there are older guys (35+) and the younger talent is dropping to 205/185.

dean lister vs Michael knapp jan 17th. Fightor is back. But this sucks compared to their first scheduled event :[

co main is Amoussou vs M'Pumbu

James Mulheron vs Rueben wolf Feb 28th in Germany

Cool fight. Hope James gets signed if he wins. If he doesn't get signed, I'd like to see him fight Delija or Chaban Ka if he's branching outside the UK.

Ask and you shall receive, here's my take on the top 20 HW prospects in the US. I also included SHW in here, other than that the selection rules follow the same guidelines in the main Unsigned HW post.

Top 20 US HW Prospects

1. Curtis Blaydes - Ultra athletic NJCAA champion, fast learner and blessed with tons of physical gifts. Future top 10 if he puts it all together.

2. Brandon Griffin - King of the blitz, Griffin starts fast and brutal, and thus far we haven't seen anyone get past the initial attack in his pro career.

3. Chris Barnett - A top 10 heavyweight is buried under 80-90 pounds of fat, if he can drop to 245 in the long term he could be a force.

4. Cody East - A movement heavy boxer with a solid training camp at Jackson's. East's speed and footwork puts down anyone who can't keep him still.

5. Steve Mocco - Ranked Olympian Steve Mocco. That is all.

6. Jan Jorgensen - Athletic former linebacker at the NCAA level, great athlete who trains at elevation and has a strong record against regional competition.

7. Dillion Cleckler - Strong record against low level competition, strong fighter. Lots of physical ability, but getting older and has questionable cardio.

8. Adam Milstead - Younger and athletic with good skillset, however he may drop to LHW.

9. Allen Crowder - NCAA football athletics background and former body builder, lots of physical abilities and improving skillset.

10. Dakota Merritt - Another football player, giant and strong, improving skillset.

11. Brendan Barrett - Experiencing a late career resurgence, could end up falling into the journeyman bracket though.

12. Bryc Palmer - Well rounder with massive power, inactivity has been a major issue though due to injuries.

13. Dale Sopi - Mark Hunts little brother from another mother, big power and resilience but still extremely raw as a martial artist. Trains at Power MMA.

14. Justin Willis - Wrestler from AKA. Has looked good recently but has lots of extra weight and a sub par track record in previous fights that he will need to work to overshadow.

15. Curt Lemmon - Another fighter along the Dale Sopi lines, big power with a ground game, but short, stocky and inexperienced.

16. Seante Williams - Former NFL player. Trains at elevation. Sparsely fights, only focuses on standup and is in his mid thirties.

17. Jeremy Hardy - Karate black belt and BJJ blue belt, Hardy is just starting his pro career and needs to prove himself to the world.

18. Maurice Greene - Tricky opportunity fighter, however his style may not be suited for success in the North American HW scene due to wrestling heavy grinders and clinch fighters with power.

19. Josue Lugo - Good grappler, getting in better shape at Cung Le's gym, could be good but also is really raw.

20. Keishaun Hill - Former CAMO amateur state champion, went to a split with Jack May. Good potential but also raw and inexperienced.

*. Jeff Hughes - Former NAAFS title contender, Hughes is probably better off at LHW, however his wrestling base is strong and his venture into pro fights could be fruitful.

**. Antwan Phillips - Former NAAFS HW champion, Phillips is a power grappler, with huge slams and brutal wrestling, his transition into pro fights will be one to watch. Also a very small heavyweight fighter who may drop to LHW in the future.

Amateurs

1. Scott Steele - Olympic freestyle wrestling alternate and CAMO amateur state champion. Trains at Team Quest.

2. Wade Sauer - NCAA Div 1 wrestler placing in the top 5. Huge power, size and great cardio. May not be fighting anymore however.

3. Steve Mowry - 6'9" IBJFF medalist, golden gloves champion, super potential.

4. Roger McCovey - NJCAA wrestler, tenacious and powerful. May drop to LHW however.

5. JD Ramsey - Top 10 placing NCAA Div 2 wrestler. Athletic. Still very raw.

Funny that I should mention amateurs, but Steve Mowry will be fighting JD Ramsey in two weeks for the Caged Madness amateur HW title. It's rare to see two top 5 amateurs in North America fight early in their careers. If Mowry can defend the takedown he'll take it, but Ramsey is a bull and has NCAA wrestling credentials to back his strength up.

One not on the list is Daylin Murray.. Very athletic young heavyweight with a good head kick, just beat Pete Brooks (4-0). Still very raw at 3-0 but has more promise than most hw's imo.

not a world beater or anything but

Daylin is interesting for sure, but he fights both 205 and HW. In the past two years he's fought from 195 catchweight to weighing in at 230 at his heaviest, so in those cases I usually assume the fighter will drop to 205 eventually.

He's my #20 profile in my main post actually, I have to profile him still, so any info you have would be awesome! From the tape I've watched he's a nasty wrestler with some great physical gifts. He makes lots of mistakes though, but he's still a scary dude with great potential.

Here's a fun video to show why I ranked Steele as my new #1 amateur pick.

Thanks for the list Paul L!

I can see Tony Johnson doing some big things in the big leagues
