For someone to be paying for insurance just to get hit with a bullshit denial is unconscionable. That fact that these companies can scam and fraud you to bankruptcy or even death is completely unacceptable. Honestly it's probably worse than this guy getting shot. And yet our politicians just let it happen.

People are waking up to the fact that we live in a corporatocracy and they're not liking it very much. The illusion of freedom, the illusion of Democracy, and the illusion of being equal under law are all being shattered.
This dude getting domed is enjoying just about as much bipartisan support as it is possible to get these days. So many people with horror stories about the fuckery of health insurance companies.

I bet he’s long gone out of the city
Cameras tracked him from the bike to a cab to a bus station with buses headed out of state. Last camera footage was him going into the bus station.

Yeah, he was required to make as much profit as possible but he wasn't conscripted for this job, he worked HARD to climb up to that position. Any person working in the higher up positions in such a massive company absolutely is aware of its obligations and shares its values. It's not like he was some lowly billing clerk.

Can't murder the entire system or bomb UnitedHealthcare headquarters so this dude killed the single person that's most influential. Political assassinations have this same kind of logic. There is an entire system that people are angry at but the leading general/dictator/president is the one that gets the bullet.

It seems this assassination did have some kind of effect.

Anthem insurance recently had announced they would only cover anesthesia during surgeries up to a certain time period and then the patients would be on the hook for the rest. That is unbelievably cruel to cut off anesthesia during surgery. This new policy was announced under great controversy.

After this assassination, Anthem quietly cancelled this new policy.

Doesn't seem to be directed at the doctors or hospitals who made the charges in the first place either.

No they aren't. A majority answer yes to the initial question when they don't know what it means, then it drops off a cliff when they're told what it actually means.

It's a yes when it's just a vague question about whether everyone should receive healthcare, but a no to increased taxes, no to taking away their own insurance, and no to basically every individual aspect of implementing it, so the answer is basically "throw all the poors on that shit but keep me out of it". The number who actually support putting everyone on a single national program is like 27%, which is lower than the number of people who are already currently on medicaid.

It's a sad day for humanity if it takes murder to change even an ounce of the systemic rape of sick people by the insurers.

Is there a stat on that or...
I mean, he shot the guy point blank with his face shown. I wouldn't exactly say this is a strategic assassination. Even had his handwriting on the bullets. If they can't catch the guy, there's an issue, imo.

Could it possibly be a combination of the shooter covering the important tracks well enough (so far at least) and also the revealing of the emperor wears no clothes (these investigators aren't as good as they make it out to be on TV and in movies) ?

Possibly. I'd be mortified if the shooter has any actual training/rogue agent, due to all of the mistakes. Couldn't just done it in a drive by and claimed gang violence, for one.

The celebration of this guy's murder is a bit disturbing to me. Can't condone pre-meditated murder at all. But I'm trying to put myself in the shoes of someone who lost a person close to them (family, friends, spouse, etc.) due to insurance company fuckery. That must be peak frustration and anger. I can understand how someone would lose themselves to rage and decide to take Thompson's life. It's scary, but pretty much any human is capable of snapping like that depending on the circumstances.

Also, there's no way they don't find this guy. They no doubt have prints and DNA. Even if traditional police work doesn't find him, they could identify him through genetic genealogy if need be. That can be a lengthy process though.

The thing is you can't even have a normal intelligent conversation about the manhunt because half of the people want him free so bad that they make up his chances of getting away. As soon as the story broke I just saw random Reddit threads where people automatically said "this guy will never get caught" and anyone who said otherwise pointing out obvious issues in getting away was down voted to hell.

People acting like he's Jason Bourne while in reality he's just a dude with a mask who had a gun jam leaving bunny trails everywhere for the police. Water bottle, backpack, writing on bullets, pulls his mask down like a complete dumbass because of some chick asked him to. There is no realistic chance he gets away at this point especially how many mistakes he's already made. Whatever info we have the authorities know much more. His best way out is basically offing himself in the middle of the remote woods.

Agreed I doubt this is a "professional" but rather someone whose life circumstances led him to a point where he figured this is going to be my sole mission in life.

I think if they don't get an ID within the next week it'll be a wrap.

Aye. Even if he gets away, then all that'll really change is more security for execs imo. Next week people forget.

The strange thing is the picture of the guy with his face revealed might be a different person than the person who shot the CEO.

The jacket and backpack are clearly different.
Dude you can't be serious if you think that the police didn't notice something that basic in several days lol... The photo is not from the same day of the shooting, and was taken from footage of his hostel. It's pretty much confirmed that it's the same guy. Has been discussed at length on this thread.

Sherdog master detectives get fooled by the "if the coat don't fit....you must acquit!"
