Underrated band members

Fast Eddy Clarke from Motorhead. I think their best stuff was written with Fast Eddy.

Bad religion minus Brett Gurewitz was pretty average.

Mike Clark of Suicidal Tendencies is underrated too (everyone attributed the musical improvement of the band in the late 80s/early 90s to Trujillo).

Marco Hietala of Nightwish gets forgotten sometimes as well.

My submission is Cliff Burton. I realize he is dead. I realize Metallica has had mega success after him.

I think most metal fans realise this though.

Metallica is one of the only metal bands to ever break through the mainsteam. And Cliff's forgotten in that demographic.

Mike Einziger from Incubus.

Really under-rated guitar player. Studies song writing at f*cking Harvard.

And yes.. He wrote the riffs to the epic tracks in HALO 2.
Incubus - Big Halo fans.

Guitar- Slash
Drums- Travis Barker

:D

That's a joke, right?

I mean everyone knows Slash is just a story parents tell their children and he's not really real, right?

Kim Thayil from Soundgarden

Amazing guitarist

whoever wrote the song estranged from guns and roses deserves a ton of credit.

their best composed song, in my opinion.

Everyone in Queen that isn't Freddie Mercury. Brian May gets some respect, but not nearly enough considering how great he was. He gets lost in the shuffle because he was a pretty quiet and non-controversial guy sharing a stage with perhaps the best front man of all time. John Deacon and Roger Taylor are both fantastic all-around musicians who could sing well enough to front their own bands.

Roger Taylor ought to not try singing now though. His voice is atrocious (he was fine back in Freddie's era). I went to see them when Paul Rodgers was with them, and Taylor managed to kill the crowd with a worthy ballad for AIDS. Not kidding either. Killed the place stone dead.

John Deacon is much missed from their frequent whoring sessions, but they pissed him off with one daft idea too many. I think it was working with Robbie Williams, but could easily have been 5ive. He sold all his kit and retired. They don't even see him now.

Not sure if Cliff Burton is underrated in context of what the op is saying..

You're right. Cliff is unknown in the mainstream (what else could you expect though) but every Metallica fan remotely familiar with their work before Black Album knows about him and how they slowly took a different direction after he died.

Neither is Steve Harris imo. Is there a Maiden fan under the sun that doesn't know he writes 80% of their material? Sure Bruce gets the most attention, but he's the lead singer, that's bound to happen regardless of who writes what. Not to mention he's a much much better singer than Steve is a bass player. He elevates the material to a whole new level.

Frusciante, JPJ, Izzy, Ellefson and most of the names mentioned ITT fit the description though.

That whole album is genius. Civil War, Pretty Tied up, Estranged, Locomotive, .... I mean fucking Locomotive, mutha'fucka.

Only one mention of Ray Manzarek and none of Robby Krieger and John Densmore? That just proves my point... All the musicians in the Doors were absolutely amazing and yet they are completely over-shadowed by Jim Morrison's legacy and fame. Most people even think that Morrison wrote Light my Fire's lyrics while in fact Krieger did it.

When the Doors toured Holland Jim Morrison was so baked that he didn't even show up for the shows. Manzarek sang the whole set and no one even knew the difference.
