Changing back to my old style of breakdown, less time consuming so can hopefully get more done.
Jonathan Meunier vs Richard Walsh
Jonathan Meunier
Strengths:
Big size and range for a Welterweight
Good offensive wrestling for a striker
Solid use of elbows and chokes
Weaknesses:
Stiff striking despite striking background
Vulnerable to strikes when isn't the one pushing forward
Key's to victory: As much as people will talk about Meunier's striking background, it really isn't his offence in MMA at least from what his fights suggest so far. He can use straight punches and leg kicks well utilising his rangy frame but for me it's his offensive wrestling and top control that stand out most of all. He is good in the clinch and has some nice bodylock takedowns too. Once on top Meunier has some heavy elbows and is also very dangerous with chokes due to his long limbs. In my opinion Meunier's best chance at winning is to strike at range but mix in his takedowns when he can as I believe he has a big advantage if he can secure top control.
Richard Walsh
Strengths:
Decent overhand and body kicks
Toughness
Weaknesses:
Vulnerable to strong grapplers
Porous defence, essentially a brawler
Keys to victory: The key to victory for Walsh is pretty simple, he needs to do what he likes to do best and make this a dogfight. Walsh needs to close the distance and fire off his overhand that he's hurt opponents with before, as I mentioned Meunier doesn't react well to being backed up and forced to defend strikes so Walsh will likely be all too aware of that. Walsh will need to learn when to disengage after a flurry though as I think Meunier can definitely secure a takedown from the clinch if Walsh gets too aggressive looking for a finish.
Prediction: Meunier has more tools to win here. I think his striking isn't as good as others suggest but he will have the reach and size advantage over the brawler; Walsh. Meunier to take a tough fought decision or late choke.
