UFC 199 in Los Angeles on June 4 will be the first UFC event to be subject to the new system. Fighters will have a window to weigh in beginning at 10 a.m. the day before the event, rather than hitting the scale at the traditional time of 4 p.m. The idea stems from the advice of doctors, who say that giving fighters more time to rehydrate between the weigh-in and the fight will be beneficial to their health

n an e-mail sent to fighters this week, UFC vice president of athlete health and performance Jeff Novitzky wrote that the promotion is exploring the possibility of an earlier weigh-in, much like some state athletic commissions are implementing. MMA Fighting obtained a copy of the e-mail Friday.

"UFC is also working with the Athletic Commissions to test the feasibility of extending the weigh-in period, including a multi-hour weigh-in conducted at the host hotel," Novitzky wrote.

Commissions in Kansas and at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut have already tried an earlier weigh-in the day before Bellator events with almost unanimous positive feedback from fighters. The California State Athletic Commission is in the process of making an earlier weigh-in part of its official rules.

Interesting. Sounds like a good idea.

Okay this makes sense. We can get some breakfast and watch some weigh-ins.

They should do weigh-ins in between rounds. If they don't make weight, give them an hour.

Sounds good, if its for the better of their health, then that's great.

weight classes are retarded i think, HEIGHT classes would make more sense or even better no classes at all..

most of sports have no weight classes..we wanna see the BEST not the best in a certain weight ...

who would watch the midget class basketball matches? no1

hate p4p any hw would destroy any1 except some lhw guys with ease anyday..

Your idea doesn't make any sense because people are not 2 dimensional.

Or, you could just watch the HW's - nobody is twisting your arm to watch the smaller weight classes.

The fighters should weigh-in after the fight.

That would be an interesting idea... But they would still need to weigh in like regular or you would have guys missing weight every fight regardless of the sanctions imposed ...

Good idea. Give them more time to get bigger before the fight.

This is such a bad idea..
How so? Did you read the article? Bellator and other organizations have been doing this. The fighters like it. And they still have the option of weighing in at 4PM if they want. If they wanna weigh in earlier and thus have more time to hydrate, they can choose that.

This is such a bad idea..

Why is this a bad idea?

Basically, they can weight in at any point between 10am and the official on-stage weigh-ins at 4pm

Meaning a fighter can weigh in at 10am if he wishes and have a fully 36 hours to rehydrate and get back up to normal.

This combined with the 8% limit on Tuesdays

Smh...I guess the next fight to make is Mark Hunt vs. Anthony Pettis (as both are 5'8).

Why not just have them weigh in the day before that?
Or a week before the fight?

well you go ahead and watch midget olympics or something

my idea makes perfect sense, its exciting knowing the champion would prolly beat 99% the population..

but dont worry if ur a manlet u could be the best in the worlds most popular sport soccer..

They do this in the local circuit here in Vancouver Battle Field Fight leauge does it and it's a great idea to give people more time to get fluid back in there system.
