Media UFC superstar Jon Jones admits to only making $30 million in nearly a decade and multiple ppv appearances

It sorta makes me understand the ducking. For arguably the mma goat to clear less over a career than some boxers make in a couple fights is criminal.

100%. People need their head checked if they don't think that's an absolute fuck-ton.
Lebron makes that in half a season whether he plays or not. It's a ton of money but the top athletes in other sports laugh at that money. They also get a ton of endorsements which the UFC pilfers....uh, I mean that the fighters wear uniforms and can't wear sponsors to UFC events. The UFC has to have great lawyers to get away with this 'Private Contractor' stuff.

"Only" $30 million?

On one hand, I want every fighter to be able to live off it. On the other hand, I think the top athletes in the world are horrendously overpaid.
By the amount of money they make for their teams or leagues, the top athletes in the world are undeniably horrifically underpaid. Jon Jones, for example, has made hundreds of millions for the UFC while making $30M for himself. No one deserves that kind of money, but the fighters sure deserve it more than the promoters. In other industries an agent might make as much as 15% commissions; the UFC makes an 80% commission overall, and most major sports leagues about 50%.

Thing is he's not a plumber or an electrician though. Only apples to apples comparisons make sense. Elite athletes in other sports make far, far more than Jones has. For an athlete of his caliber he is absolutely underpaid. Doesn't matter if he makes more than the average guy, because the average guy doesn't generate the kind of revenue for their employer that he does.

I 100% believe that the split should be as close to 50/50 athletes/org as possible to keep the product chugging along and to keep the athletes financially well off.
I am, however, more concerned in this matter in eliminating guys making $30k for a fight and pushing them towards ~$200k/year on average than if Jon Jones has made 30 or 40 million dollars.

If you can retire and life the rest of your life in luxury, and provide for your children and grandchildren with smart investments, I don't really care about your fiscal complaints.

30million is disgustingly low for the caliber of athlete he is winning at the highest level for almost two decades. I could only imagine the amount of revenue he has generated for the UFC by comparison. Boxers that are winning fights at his level are shitting on the penance that the UFC pays Jon by a monumental chasm. I for one hope they give him his “fuck you money” for an Aspinall fight. Love him or hate him it’s hard to argue that the MMA GOAT doesn’t deserve at least 1 fair payday at this point in his career.

Yeah, it's still not nearly as much as it sounds like, which is true in other sports also. First off, you lose about half to taxes. Then you have to pay an agent (usually like 5%) and all of your trainers, gym, etc. You also have to live (and sometimes train) during the times you aren't fighting, so living expenses would eat a lot up during long periods with no fights. Yeah, they get paid better than most of us, but it isn't the dream money many think, not unless you go to the apex of sports players. Conor is the only one with elite wealth in MMA.

LOL he literally admitted to being an alcoholic stoner crackhead.

I didn't even know he did crack
He definitely does coke. Lol. Don't be so obsessed with Jon. Outside of the cage the dudes life has been a train wreck. Or more appropriate and accurate a car wreck. But in the cage, dude always shows up. I've made money on Jones for years. He's my blue chip. I remember way back when I voted on shogun to beat Jones several years back thinking Jones is too young and unproven. Boy was I wrong. I bet on Jon ever since. Never lost a 1. I don't like Jon the person very much. But I do like Jon the fighter. Very consistent when he steps in the cage.

Uh.. no NBA, NFL, NHL, MLB player wears anything but a 100% approved uniform.

So that's a moot point. UFC fighters can get the same sponsorships but nfl NBA and MLB are ten fold the UFC. Unfortunately, there seems to be far less national sponsorships for even the big stars in those sports.

Could he be any more unlikeable, oblivious, or in denial about how no one is jealous of Jone's "American Dream".

Also, he's loaded for life and then some, his family too. So I'm not losing sleep over what he's made. I just wish more fighters were getting more, not the big names getting less.

How Christian of him.

They can deduct all of that off of their income at least, and pay tax on a lower amount, unlike most of us working stiffs.

Your comment about living expenses and paying taxes make little sense because we all have those things to deal with. If Jokes made $30 million, why does it matter if he made that money evenly distributed every day or he made that money in two payments a year? He still has the same living expenses either way.

The trainers, agents, gym comment makes sense as those are major expenses, but at least somewhat offset with tax deductions.

Also it's pretty amazing as an MMA athlete (or boxer) that you only officially work a few days a year. Yes you have to train constantly but to me it's different than a team athlete that is required to be at XYZ training at XYZ time etc.

“Half of you are struggling to make rent. Joke’s on you.” That’s not how you go get some fans, Jon.
Seriously. Every time he gets mad, he's like "i'm rich, I have important friends!"

Like he's trying to convince himself that he's not a ducking, drug addict cheating servant of the Devil.

Prize fighters are never gonna be paid the same as other athletes.

The top fighter is just gonna be active twice a year anyway. It's a completley different universe. Just accept that and stop comparing them.

Fighting is never going to be as big as regular sports. Violence of this sort does not have the same appeal.

MMA can get to boxing levels some day but to think that MMA and Basketball or gonna be the same? never

That's OK with me. Comparing ball games to prize fighting is a FOOL's ERRAND.
