Hot Take UFC should cut Jones, Poatan, Chimaev, Topuria

If the UFC paid their fighters better they wouldn’t need to seek out the $$$$ fights.

I'd love to see a UFC pay structure that offers fighters more money to remain active.

Like sign fighters to contracts for more $$$, but make 50% of their salary contingent on fighting again within 6 months. I'm sure it would be very difficult to make it work in practice for a variety of reasons, but I still think it would be nice if the UFC could find a way to motivate fighters to be active.

But I do think any champion who can't/won't defend within a year should be automatically stripped. And interim titles should be eliminated (along with the BMF).

These guys don't want to fight. They want to post and get sponsors and talk about moving weight classes. This is bad for UFC, they need guys willing to actually fight and defend their title. They don't need guys looking to move to boxing, talking about changing weight classes, wanting to squat belts and ranks and collect appearance checks outside the org.

Its time to wipe the slate clean for the Paramount era and get rid of these dudes.

Pereira fought 12 times since he joined the UFC, 12 fights in 4 years...8 times there was a title on the line, often his own.
Topuria, 9 fights in 5 years, 3 title fights, not Pereira levels of activity, but thats alright.

Jones is at the end of his career, if he isnt interested in fighting every 4 months thats fine, the one you should be aiming for is Chimaev...He had a pretty decent start but thats it, 9 fights in 5.5 years, only 1 title fight, and not in a hurry to fight again, for his own belt, he would jump to fight Pereira for the LHW title on week(s) notice tho...

This behavior is a relatively recent trend and should be discouraged.

As for Poatan, he has zero intention of ever defending the LHW belt. He wants only the Jones fight then boxing, he and his manager have stated it several times.

Khamzat is over there in another corner saying he will only fight Poatan... Topuria only wants Islam, etc. its ridiculous and an example needs to be made. Dana tried the new rule where you get stripped if you change weight classes for another belt and this rule change did jack shit to change this behavior.
