UFC releases Yushin Okami

I don't agree with it, but I can see the reasoning behind it.

The bottom line: Yushin Okami has been fighting in the UFC for 7 years. How many fans does he have? How many people saying, "I'm definitely buying this PPV because I never miss a Yushin Okami fight"?

He's important for those asian markets though, especially since he's the most successful one. They're trying to grow asian mma more than ever now with TUF china and a few new korean guys. Pretty weird cut..

He'll probably agree with it, he is one of the biggest kiss asses in the UFC right now.

lol it's not about kissing ass, it's about draws. I figured Okami would draw a lot from Japan, but there's a lot of work done behind the scenes to see what these guys draw. Yushin has less followers on twitter then me (I don't have a lot of followers), and maybe the brass figured he's not puling his weight in comparison to some others.

Shitty cause I liked him, but Bellator or another org. should swoop him up pretty quick.

UFC once again shows that it's just a business and not a sport.
3-1 in his last 4 fights and he costs $40.000/ fight which is a small fee compared to fighters with similar performance.

I scared of getting banned for speaking my mind on this but Konster's first post summed up my thoughts nicely.

One of the worst UFC cuts ever.

Cheap pieces of shit, they only cut him because his salary is high after so many UFC wins. Cut fucking Bisping while you're at it.
bisping makes them money,so no

It was time.

He's been knocked out three times in his last six fights and has obviously plateaued.

They set the precedent with Fitch, I cannot believe anyone is surprised by this.

Well, they're a promotional company. This is what can happen when the promotional brand is bigger than the fighters.

The problem with that logic is that by following it, the UFC would have a roster of about 12 dudes.

If you follow the logic of 'best guys stay in the company', there are about 100 people who need a pink slip before this guy gets his.

How so? How many guys have been in the UFC for 7 years despite not having a fan base?

I never think "Fuck yeah a Yushin Okami fight is next!" but he is a legit high level fighter and has always been a realyl classy guy.

I say that every time. I enjoy watching high level, competitive mixed martial arts fights and his fight with Lombard was the only reason I tuned into the Silva/Stann card

Okami is the highest ranked fighter they have cut if memory serves me right.

This is no worse than the Fitch cut. Both are terrible cuts as far as I'm concerned. It's likely due to the fact that they had big contracts relative to newer fighters and that the UFC didn't think they brought enough excitement relative to the contract.

Are you fucking kidding me right now?

This is absolutely worse than cutting Fitch. Unlike Fitch Okami actually fought and beat more ranked opponents than Fitch can ever dream of. On top of that he never bitched about how much he was getting paid or had any feud with that tubby bald fuck.

Good move. When was the last time he put on a great fight? I love seeing all of these fake Okami fans crying over this news.

most of the comments didn't say that they are Okami fans, they're just talking about that stupid cut

I'm honestly starting to worry if they read the just bleed responses. Even Henderson might be in trouble with his decision wins.

I actually thought Okami was going to be one of the more interesting Weidman future opponents and contenders if Weidman beats Anderson in the rematch.

his tdd and striking seems to be a good stylistic challenge to Chris. Of course CHris might Boetsch him at the last minute but I think Okami would likely be winning the fight up until he got finished.

Maybe that was the UFC fear. Okami as champ would not be a big seller and maybe they feared the possibility.

Re-negotiated 5 fight contract right before the Silva fight. Was making BIG bucks. (I think between 85-125 to show)

He wasn't released. Just wasn't renewed. Like Kongo.

he made 42k/42k at UFC 155.

Not sure where you got 85-125 from? Unless it was a backloaded contract

How the F*** do they justify this? okami is one of the best MW in the world and 3-1 in his past 4 13-5 overall? what the hell
