MLB does not have a 20 yr deal with any network
Individual teams have had some for local broadcast & they included other things like ownership stakes

LAST TIME: Nobody thinks UFC is comparable to MLB

The point is/was UFC's deal is "growing" over 2x (lowest offer) - that is excellent

You said UFC is supposed to be a growing sport
Getting TV deals that are growing 2-2.5x is GROWING

Now please continue posting that a 100 year sport with 1300 games a year is bigger then UFC is in 2017

Last I checked these individual teams, the ones getting these deals, don't have 1300 games a year, but ok.

If you actually looked at the total amount all the teams get for all those games, holy fuck would those number dwarf anything the UFC could ever dream of, obviously.

I ask again....what are you comparing the UFC to then?

Against major sports? Apparently not, that's a fucking blow out that the UFC can't stand up to.

Against itself? OK...in 10 years they've maybe doubled their TV deal, which still isn't that big, and is for a relatively small commitment.

And the PPV's are going down...

I'm not one of those "the UFC is dying!!!" guys, but let's not act like they're doing amazing lol

Yes I am comparing a sport promotion that is unlike any other entity to itself
They are growing in TV rights

If I opened a business that sold Pizza & somebody told me my Pizza shop was not as big as McDonalds as a way to compare, I'd shake my head the same way I am doing with you.

Only on SD does someone compare UFC to MLB
Heck MLB doesn't compare itself to NBA/NFL because they are different

I'm comparing the UFC to other major sports, which UFC executives have done repeatedly, in order to gauge growth.

There's nothing impressive about their TV numbers, in comparison to themselves, and especially in comparison to the major sports.

And their most profitable venture, PPV numbers, are significantly decreasing.

If your pizza place improved, but not nearly as much as the restaurants you've compared yourself to over the years, and your most profitable pizza deal is declining significantly in sales, I bet you wouldn't be too happy.
 
Holy shit, I remember when the UFC really took off in 2006-2007, they really killed it with less.

I was comparing UFC PPVs by year. The Mayweather/McGregory BOXING PPV was NOT a UFC event. UFC promotes MMA. This was not an MMA match. Nowhere during the broadcast was UFC referenced unless they were referring to Conor as a UFC fighter.

PPV is only one of their business metrics and that's what the article was about. Co-promoting...OTHER SPORTS...is another. They also air Glory kickboxing PPVs on UFC Fight Pass. And honestly, the whole point of the article was that people are buying the big shows more than ever before and the lesser shows are being skipped more and more. If I had included May-Mak, that would've made the point even moreso. As it is, over the last 3 years, shows featuring the big stars (Conor, Ronda, Jones, Silva, Brock, GSP, Punk) have averaged 917,062 buys per show. Shows not headlined by any of those fighters averaged 229,182 buys.

There has never been a bigger gap between the big shows and the small shows in the UFC history and the trend is that the gap is getting wider.

And it's also been this way in boxing for years now.

Your article is cleverly cherry picks stats showing a drop off of PPV and thus revenue to point out a failing model to paint the UFC in a bad light.

The event WAS a UFC event. They co-promoted it which is evident that official posters had the UFC logo on them.

The UFC's main business may be MMA that does not mean they are not allowed to take advantage of opportunities to leverage and exploit other possibilities for added revenue.

The UFC took a cut of the revenue b/c it was a PARTNER in the event. They didn't give the UFC a hand out in the millions b/c they felt sorry for them.
As a journalist take the constructive criticism on the chin buddy and do better with your future articles.
Oh and I agree with your analysis of the buying habits of fans.

Conclusion Dana was wrong that the UFC is neck and neck with Soccer. It's destroying it!

This was a quote from the post-fight press conference of UFC 217

As for why would “The Money Fight” be included in this math – well, why wouldn’t it?

I know Dana is known to talk shit but it's true that they spent months of their resources promoting it. You don't spend your resources and money if you are not a partner.

The UFC also applied to NSAC to be the co-promoter of the event.

Where did you hear that? I have not seen any articles from a valid source on this. Conor & Dana have let 100 m slip off their toungues several times when discussing it.
