Apparently, falling asleep on your feet when your opponent catches a kick is not a good fight strategy. Letting your opponent drag you into punching range by your foot without putting up any opposition and not bothering to defend the punch that everyone in the arena saw coming a mile away is not something you do if you're awake.

No he wouldn’t. He would get beaten by Fleury in standup and Buday in wrestling. Ankalaev is overrated fighter which is in ufc succesfull only because ali is his manager. His biggest win is against injured Poatan which absolutely demolished him in rematch.

Buday also finished Parisian. Ankalaev finished similar competition. For rest he just grinded his opponent on cage, same as Buday. Btw if he chosed same gameplan as Buday vs Fleury. He would get destroyed in same way.

I always wondered why Fleury wasn't given a chance in DWCS or something, given his nationality and his record ain't bad either. This might explain it then.

He is too deep in his career to be on DWCS. He likely just signs with whoever will pay him the most, which might not be the UFC. He has been in many major promotions, so he is not the type who will get a bottom feeder contract.
