UFC On ESPN 12: Poirier vs. Hooker

man, i know it seems counterintuitive at times, but it seems that going up in weight class gives fighters an increase in "agility" . u would think the extra weight slows them down , but the reality is them not having to cut weight gives them more gas overall. calvillo is a great example as she would gas in 3 rounders, while she looked great vs eye in 5er. i hate these odds as maurice sucks imo.. but i could see the judges give him the nod for slobbering a wall and stall decision over villante.

Without searching for exact stats on this I believe that many fighters under the age of 30 had good results by moving up a weight class - as long as it wasn't a fight on short notice.

Gian Villante is not exactly a spring chicken, he will be 35 in 2 months, and moving up to heavy weight is a whole different thing anyway.
Gian isn't that big of a guy to begin with and he never missed weight during his UFC career.
Makes me think of Rampage's move to heavyweight...

im actually playing go the distance x 1.6. Cyril Gane couldnt finish Boser I doubt Lins can. Boser has only been KO'd once in 23 fights. He lost 5 times by decision.
The thing is the small cage matters. I think Lins knows this is his last chance in the UFC so I expect him to be aggressive. Also, Boser is a counter striker, so if Lins get aggressive he has a good chance at finishing him too. Gane could have for sure finished that fight, he just didn't actively look for the finish he wanted to pick Boser apart. At +180 for u2.5 rounds is not too bad imo

Anyone like Brahimaj? Just watched his fight with Patterson. Patterson was much more physically stronger and was a bad matchup for him. Belal was able to duck under and get takedowns vs Sato and I think Brahimaj can do the same. Sato gives up the back fairly easy.

edit
Brahimaj is submission over position and loses position a lot but I think he can get away with it here. Took a shot at him at +135
Couldnt find the Patterson fight but that loss was Razim's only tough opponent. Not a good sign. I expect him to become even more of an underdog closer to fight time. Might want to wait next time

small cage, villante moving up to heavyweight. I think people underestimate how big the difference is between heavyweight and light heavyweight. Heavyweights are huge, especially Greene, look at how scared ovince saint preux was vs rothwell. So i think a KO by Greene is most likely, but I am sure Villante will throw some haymakers in the first round which could catch Greene too.
I'm never confident in a HW bout because I know there's always a chance someone gets clipped. However, Villante is just not that guy imo. And it's not like he was a huge 205'er anyway. Greene is a bit of a flake so you never know I guess. I wouldn't take much stock in the way OSP looked against Rothwell, he looks like that against everyone. As a guy who would rather bet unders than overs, this is one I'm probably staying away from.

what are people thinking miranda maverick vs mara borella?

Maverick is the younger fighter who is better on the ground but borella has more experience and is probably on the way out if she loses this one. I think Maverick takes it but will it be by sub or decision? I'm thinking it goes the full 3 rounds.

Im on Lins too I think it will be a decision as well, Boser seems pretty slow and low output but hes only been finished once in his career so probably goes all 3 here. Lins had a pretty tough matchup for his debut with Arlovski especially coming off a year long layoff.

all 3 will win.

khama worthy throws decent leg kicks and has KO power so I can definitely see paths to victory for him. Matt Frivola landed some decent strikes on him too so Pena isn’t safe there Khama also trained at home all throughout the quarantine so I expect him to be in shape.

How's his grappling? Violent Bob Ross likely just grapples to a win, no?

I’m not too sure how his grappling is I still need to watch his older fights but VBR didn’t start a grappling heavy game plan until his last fight. He fought a kickboxing match with Frivola for the most part sans Frivola going for and landing a couple takedowns.

If Pena has been working on strength training and grappling then I favor him to win a decision. If he plays a standup game with Worthy he could get caught. Not sure Worthy wins a decision that way though.

I like worthy Dec will prob play the Starts rd 3 instead though as long as its not above-200

Hard to get a good read on the Perry fight, the strength of competition between him and Gall is night and day. Perry has fought guys in the top 15 meanwhile Galls toughest opponents were a washed up Diego and Randy Brown. I would definitely feel better if Perry was at a legit gym still instead of training himself

What do you mean? He attempted multiple subs on Frevola, and sweep him a couple times. Pena also tried to TD Frevola at the end of round 1 of that fight. Pena knew Frevola was a wrestler, it was probably his gameplan to beat him on the feat and take what he could get in the grappling game. When Pena fought after that, against KO artist Steve Garcia, he pretty much went for all grappling approach. So when he has the grappling advantage, he will for sure push it
