Finally UFC will introduce standby fighters to replace any injured main event fighters,

This will start with UFC 226 with Alexander Volkov.

If an injury before the fight happens between Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier,

Alexander Volkov is ready to replace them.

Finally no more cancelled fights,

But the question is: will the standby fighters be paid if there's no injury happened?

They should be paid, since otherwise they could have had a guaranteed payday taking a normal bout even if they lost.

Don Frye is about to make a big comeback.

Also...who ever gets to be Cain and Still Mah Boi's replacements are gonna make fucking bank.

Yeah sure, but it’s just not the same hype. Still exciting for us SherBruhs so we give zero fucks. Just want to see a good scrap.

And cheers for your nickname

I really don’t see how they can’t pay. The stand by fighter will stil have to train incase they have to fight

Interesting.

Maybe the alternate will be paid in reebok money to cover training costs if they don't end up fighting.

And a free Giblert shirt too.

Though it’s a great idea, Logistically I don’t see how this is going to work. Standby fighters will inevitably begin to complain about not being paid, or the lower pay they get for standby, or for having that time blocked out from being able to take other fights etc. And I bet it doesn’t even make a year before both the standby fighter and the schedule fighter are unavailable to fight because of injuries or weight cuts.

I think the better idea is to always book another fight On the card that is in the same weight division as the main event, and that way if the main event fighter pulls out then one of the other fighters on the card can step up.

Not sure how that is all going to work out. I'm skeptical. How is the payment going to work? Is that a last minute negotiation where the UFC tries to low ball? Why would anyone who has a legitimate shot at the title do that, instead of waiting for their turn? You lose short notice and the mob doesnt remember that part. Stupid thing to do unless you have nothin to lose, like Michael Bisping did against Luke, for example.

This is a very welcome strategy. I hope they pay Volkov a small amount (to cover things like travel/lodge and a little bit of training money, since he has to stay ready in case the worst happens). Something like $25k seems reasonable.
But is this strategy doable in any other weight class? If someone misses weight at say 170, the backup would have needed to be cutting weight all week too in order to step in.

Unfortunately, I think you just nailed it. UFC always tries to low ball and then blame the fighter for "not wanting to fight". Didn't they try this with Pettis during the 223 fiasco to fight Khabib?

That's a friggingly awesome idea. Seems so obvious, but I haven't seen many people on SD talk about it before.

This will prevent the Khabib-Tony type disasters in the future.

If it's been contracted on both sides in advance I'm all for it regardless of how they came to agree on payment.

If all 3 make it to fight night healthy it should be a triple threat match.

But that's just me.

UFC´s too cheap for this...

Introducing it, as in something has never been done before? Nope. They kind of tried that with UFC 160, with the heavyweight card that was busted up from injuries and other fighters on the card replaced them.

Supposedly Anderson Silva was asked to be on standby for UFC 204. Jacare was attempting to do the same, as a replacement option for Bisping or Hendo.

Also, Mark Hunt was allegedly asked to be on standby for UFC 200 to replace someone in Cain vs Browne.

They've done it before, and they'll probably do it again. But as for it being a regular thing, I doubt it.
