Ufc fighters that actually have good tattoos

Jesus Christ man I just wanted to make a thread about cool tattoos on mma fighters lol
Cmon man. Just admit it. It’s all good.

Not to mention Conor’s is hideous especially comparing it to the others. But I get it. “Iconic”

Didn't realize that saying I like conors chest tat makes makes me fanboy, I think it looks cool

Some pussies in here think their doughy bare arms look better than having tattoos lol

Good artists who're specialized on portraits will tattoo you great portraits!

How do you mean "big reveal"?
I've never seen a good portrait tat in person. Yeah I've seen pictures and videos of really good ones, but never in person.

By "big reveal" I mean Conor overloading his Instagram and Twitter of his then new look with his tattoos, hairstyle and beard. One would think he was on one of those makeover shows.

Savage bro!

I understand and agree with most of what you said though (though i think Garbrandt's gladiator back piece is cool and well done).
Conor's has *some* quality issues but it's "in line" with the style it's done in (something between traditional and neo traditional, i'd say), though it could be better.
Still kinda like it.
How familiar are you with tattooing? Because i think if one comes over from "regular" art, i'd guess that most people find many things to be wrong with tattoos faster, though a lot of that might be due to the fact that one can't tattoo like one draws or paints - at least tattoos don't hold color as well and the colors fade into each other, if they don't have black outlines.

I'm sure I have a bias because I come from a "fine art" and illustration background (not trying to be pretentious, I'm just not sure what else to call it). Not a tattoo connoisseur by any means.

Poorly drawn figures are something that I really don't enjoy. The gladiators are poorly drawn, the anatomy and modelling is off which makes the figures look amateurish. The spiraling architecture is an interesting idea, the rest I don't like. I also find the whole thing busy and disorganized. I'm sure there are constraints with what you can do in a tattoo, but I compare that in my mind with the level of drawing of someone like Frank Frazetta, or a good comic book artist like David Finch or Jim Lee.

Not that I would ever tattoo Frazetta on myself or that this is amazing, but it's much better. Just giving a reference for an artist in fantasy art.

I also find the overall theme pretty corny, but that's just my personal taste. The little monsters at the bottom are so bad and silly to me.

The Conor tattoo is more a matter of me not liking the design and not finding it aesthetically pleasing, but I don't think it's so badly done within its style, so it's more subjective. It took me a long time to understand what the hell is coming out of the gorilla's mouth, and I'm still not quite sure lol.

That's fair and i guess i agree on all accounts, from what i can tell now.

What you mentioned in the initial comment is particularly important to me: the contrast (or lack of it). From my experience more contrast (and thus depth) is really what can make (or in super, super seldom cases, break) a tattoo - like there are some tattooers who make great linework and have motives that are pretty cool, but then they choose colors which makes the tattoo very like one shape and "un-three-dimensional", so to speak.

Interesting, i didn't know Jim Lee and David Finch, but i their comic work/style seems very familiar to me and i like their style, tbh.
Cool that you mention Frank Frazetta, the guy has gone off my radar after i wanted to remember his name when i first saw the following piece of art:

Shit, this looks so good. Only thing - but that's more of a taste question - that irks me a bit is the style of faces he chose here; Cleopatra looks a bit too "manga-esque" in her face to me, if that makes sense, lol.

In terms of tattoo artists, i'm a massive fan of Teresa Sharpe:

Hope i don't get yellow-carded for this one, but technically it ain't nudity, lol:

I love everything about her style; not only are her motives very cleanly done, but they also look so vivid to me... i like her choice of colors too, i must say.

Love this guys work too:

Okay, three more tattoo artists, otherwise i'll fill pages with my stuff again lmao:

When it comes to drawn or painted art, i enjoy many artists as well, here are *some* favourites:

Riccardo Federici:

Simone Bianchi:

Overall i like a ton of stuff, but especially the "darker" and more macabre stuff, color-wise i enjoy everything i guess, lol.

BTW, that Frazetta piece where the polar bears pull the sled with the barbarian is mega badass. I like that as a tattoo it has shades of pink due to the skin; harmonizes greatly with the light blue imo.

@Volador what i totally forgot to mention:

You can tattoo (pretty much) everything you can draw or paint, but the finer the details the get, the more problematic it *can* and (often) will get, when the tattoos become older - certainly if it's done in a style that hasn't got outlines - the black tattoo color (which outlines are pretty much always done with) shells other colors better from each other, so it massively helps from preventing the different colors to fade into each other.

As for the gorilla on Conor's chest (or rather, as for what is in its mouth): it's a heart!
(Also an extremely common theme in traditional and neo traditional tattoo styles)

You conveniently left out the tiger tattoo on the belly. Conor legitimately tried to copy this man's whole look, from the hair and beard right down to the tattoos. I thought this was common knowledge at this point. Sure, you can point to differences, but that's just nitpicking.

Isn't it the model who copied Conor? IDK.

If you are weak/frail you should not be getting tattoos, it looks smelly and disgusting.

Only fit people should be be getting tattoos, tattoos on weak dudes are like fake tits on a fat chick.

I frankly forgot the tiger tattoo.

Still though, a tiger tattoo on the torso is very common and so is this hair and beard style.
Haha. Ok, sure. You'll obviously say anything to defend your original assertion. Conor copied that guy's look (right down to the tats) and has made a career off copying other people's gimmicks. It's been incredibly effective, so I'm not one to hate. But a little intellectual honesty goes a long way.
