UFC Card Placement Explained – Stop Complaining, Sherbums!

Why do you say if “clearly doesn’t exist”???

Look at the card this weekend. It follows the pattern to the tee
Maybe if you're in that top 1% of the hardest of hardcore fans. To everyone else the card this weekend is low interest fight after low interest fight and then a mid interest one on top.

So we says high interest it fighters that have at least 100k plus followers or sum total of the two fighters have 100k plus followers. And there at least 4 fighters on this card that break the 100k theshold

I think a lot of people get the reason but it also sucks throwing a crappy fight between two good ones. You're on the edge from a previous fight, then you gotta sit through the WMMA sparring match that ends in a split decision then get to go back to business.

They put thought into it, but a card cant have 10+ great fights, they have to have some filler in between, prelims, main card, not every fight is a good fight, being on the main card of a PPV doesnt make them PPV fighters, the main event and usually the co-main are. This is why you see a better fight headlining the prelims than the following 1-2 fights that are part of the main card, the feature prelim is intended to draw those last minute viewers into buying the PPV.
My post here while I believe in it, was more of an excuse to say fuck you to Dreyga sir lol.

Michel Pereira has 885K. That's more like actual high interest. 100k is low.

What sounds about right:

Low: 100k and under
Mid: 200k to 500k
High: over 500k

But it also depends on other factors. Rob Font being at 60k after all these years is horrendous, but that would be pretty good for a newcomer on the rise.

Dreyga u should open up a burger shop wif all di beef 6ixdog be givin' yuh 💯🍖🐄🐮

Gr8 thread btw iono if I mention ting yet 💯🔥

Semantics. That said your breakdown seems fair.

Alice Ardeen has 600k so high interest
Joselyn Edwards has 200k mid interest

Jessica Penne has 130k I guess that’s mid to low interest on your scale.

All these fights are clustered together to get you to tune in early

If you are watching the whole card who cares ?

Are you never curious? Do you ever seek knowledge for knowledge’s sake. Don’t you want answers to mysteries? Don’t you like learning?

This stuff is incredibly fascinating to me. And I wanted to share it

Alright, Sherbums, it’s time for a lesson on UFC card placement. I’ve seen way too many people whining about why a big name is on the prelims or why a certain fight is higher up on the card. It’s NOT always about fighter popularity or rankings.

Common Misconception:

• Many believe the highest fights on the card are always the most important or feature the most popular fighters.
• In reality, UFC arranges fights based on a strategy designed to maintain viewer engagement throughout the entire event, not just the main event.

Key Elements of UFC Card Placement

Spreading Out High-Interest Fights:

• High-interest fighters or fights, often with large social media followings, are spaced across the card to keep viewers tuned in for longer.
• This avoids a scenario where all the important fights are stacked at the end, which could lead to viewers skipping earlier matches and only watching the main event.
• Example: A high-profile bout might open the event to capture early attention.

“Sandwiching” Low-Interest Fights:

• Lesser-known or lower-interest fights are often placed between two exciting or popular matchups.
• This ensures viewers are more likely to watch these lower-interest fights while waiting for the next high-profile match.
• Comparable to the Instagram scroll effect, where less engaging content is mixed with popular posts to keep users engaged.

Catering to Hometown Heroes

Enhancing Local Engagement:

• The UFC strategically places fighters who are considered “hometown heroes” on cards held in their local regions.
• This approach is intended to attract local fans, boosting attendance and viewership for the event.
• By placing these fighters in key positions on the card, the UFC aims to create an electric atmosphere that engages the crowd and enhances the overall experience for local supporters.

Promoting Emerging Prospects

Building Future Stars:

• The UFC also uses strategic card placement to promote rising stars or prospects.
• These fighters are placed around high-interest bouts to ensure maximum exposure.
• Example: Bo Nickal’s fight at UFC 300 was placed between other highly anticipated matchups to help build his fan base.

Why This Matters for the UFC

Maximizing Engagement & Ad Revenue:

• Spreading out high-interest fights and promoting rising prospects ensures viewers stay tuned throughout the event.
• This approach also maximizes ad revenue, as viewers are engaged for longer periods instead of only watching the main event.

Interesting stuff!
Do you have an Excel arc of it!

Tomorrow I believe there are 3 women fights in a row. I totally understand that usually doesn't happen, but man I'm not looking forward to any of those fights.

It’s actually really easy. All three of those WMMA fighters have over 100k followers. They are on early to get viewers to tune into the prelims. It follows the pattern
“Follows the pattern” ??

Name the UFC cards that have had 3 consecutive WMMA bouts.

You've missed the point. It flew compmletely over your head.

The pattern is their followers count not WMMA. Having a large follower count placed in the middle of the prelims to get viewers to tune in early

Look at the examples below

The same thing is happening on this card. Three fights featuring fighters with over 100k followers are back to back in the middle of the prelims

Ok…. I’ll give you the win for all that work.

I’m an old Boomer and pay zero attention to instagram, twitter and social media influencers.

I just look at the fights.

But you have shown this as “tangible” and real.

Checkmate !

The 1st fight (main card opener) should always be a fun fight to get started exciting - no ankle huggers.
2nd fight - this is place for the obligatory wmma fight or likely boring non title fight..
3rd fight - is the "peoples main event" the fun fight that engages fan intrest most other thsn a title fight.
4th fight ( co main) - a lesser anticipated title fight or most meani full fight on card not Main event
5th fight - main - most meaningful fight on card.

I thought this was the system?

The system is to get viewers to watch as much of the card as possible because they are selling ad revenue against it.

They look at fighters number of followers. And they spread fighters who have a lot a followers across the card. And a sandwich fighters that have low follower counts in between fights that have high follower counts. That way you are less likely to skip those fights.
