The UFC's long-term aim is admission to the Olympic temple via the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation.
If golf, rugby sevens and BMX bikes can be accepted by the International Olympic Committee to compete on the Summer Olympic program at Rio in August, UFC argues it has equal claims as a progressive, telegenic sport.
Furthermore, if modern pentathlon – reflecting the skills of a Napoleonic soldier who could ride a horse, cross a flooded stream and fight the enemy with a sword – can continue as "modern", then a sport founded in 1993 should qualify.
But if the IOC executive is looking to the past, the UFC traces its beginning to the Athens Olympics in 648 BC when the sports of Pankration (literally meaning "all force") was on the program. A combination of boxing and wrestling, it barred gouging, biting and testicle grabbing.
Many of the sports in the martial arts mix are already on the current Olympic program, such as boxing, wrestling and judo.
Furthermore, the IOC places great importance on sports catering for male and female participants, a key plank in MMA.
In 2012, the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) was established for the further development of the sport globally. The website lists 36 countries, although UFC officials claim it is now closer to 40.
The IOC would not consider a sport for membership unless it had active participants in a minimum of 60 countries. "

Lorenzo Fertitta said:The Olympics are a business and they want to attract younger viewers for all these big television deals
UFC spokesman said:Where we're going with UFC, eventually we will be part of the Olympics. If someone had told the Olympic Committee 20 years ago that their number one program at the Winter Olympics would be snowboarding and half pipe, they would probably think they were crazy. But that's where we are today because that's what the kids want to watch — and that's wherere we are going"
