Then came the third round of the main event between champion Michelle Waterson and challenger Yasuko Tamada.

Just minutes before the TKO finish came from the brutal assault by Waterson, the Fight Pass service stopped working on many devices, but especially desktop and laptop computers. In fact, the ending sequence by Waterson was not available to see for many subscribers after the fact even though Fight Pass typically offers customers this immediate recording service.

At the event's post-fight press conference, Ant Evans, the UFC official leading the Fight Pass service, spoke to the media about the incident, acknowledging what happened and pledged to make it right with consumers.

"Fight Pass did experience a slight drop in the stream during the course Michelle's main event for several minutes. I'd like to be very clear this is a Fight Pass issue and we have never have experienced it before," Evans said. "It was definitely not an Invicta issue. We'd liked to apologize to Shannon for that.

"We're going to do a make up for this for all of our great subscribers."

Fight Pass users were encouraged to email Fight Pass support if they experienced any problems.

If I had to guess I'd say it was still Invicta themselves handling the stream, it was just output through Fight Pass because this never happens with the UFC events. Hopefully the UFC handles the next one and this shit doesn't happen again.

Yup this is Invicta doing the production, so please don't blame the UFC.

yeah, since this is the worldwide MMA discussion i'm sure most will blame zuffa, but if you look at Invicta's twitter it looks like they fucked it up

I can't event get angry I am used to Invicta fucking it up

Or you can Tweet...Invicta. You know the ones that actually fucked up.

I stay up until 5 fucking AM, and then the stream cuts out. Unprofessional. Fight Pass was a farce when I subscribed months ago and its no better at all.

The UFC production crew is some where sighing right now because they know that people are going to blame them for Invicta's issues.

Those poor bastards.

This is the only event I have had an issue with. So I am inclined to think that this was more on Invicta than UFC fight pass itself.

Tweet @InvictaFights They know they fucked up.

They should have put up a "This is Invicta's Fault, Not Ours!" banner then while it was dead

Guess I'll hit up Invicta too

Once again, how can this have ANYTHING TO DO WITH INVICTA? They provide the content and the UFC distrubutes it. I SAW *MULTIPLE MODES OF FAILURE* across all types of devices.

This was TOTALLY FightPasses fault. They have never had this kind of load on the system, and it crashed.

Source: I'm a IT infrastructure expert. EXPERT.

The fact your blaming this on the load shows you don't know what you are talking about man. The Ireland blew this shit out of the water and went off without a hitch. As has every single UFC event, nothing like this has ever happened.

Invicta are the ones producing the show, the UFC has shit to do with it other then letting them use FightPass.

Too much load? Haha what the fuck man.

Your post makes zero sense on a technical stand point.

Name the piece of equipment that you think caused the constant bandwidth hiccups before the system crashed.

Is it Invicta's cameras that couldn't handle the event?

Is it Invicta's faulty cables that breaks the feeds from the camera to the UFC's Fight Pass server?

Well, we evidently don't know shit about IT. so there you go.

If the answer is so obvious, why not educate us?

Let's look at the responsibilities here:

- Invicta produce the events. They record the events with their own cameras, which feeds into their video system, which uploads ONE SINGLE STREAM of data directly onto UFC's server.
- The UFC's servers take that video and broadcast it over the web to (hundred of thousands? millions?) subscribers worldwide, using the network bandwidth that they reserved for this event.
- When we logs in, we watch the video stored on UFC's Fight Pass Server, not from Invicta's cameras.
- Some bandwidth are obviously alloted for connected PC, some are for mobile devices.

My stream worked flawlessly on Round 2 when I watch it on my tablet, yet some of you see the loop over and over again on your PC.

Some of us had absolutely no problem going in Round 3, yet I saw two early hiccups that lasted for about 15 seconds each.

When the systerm overloads for some, yet worked for others, even though connecting to the same streaming server, that sounds like a bandwidth balancing issue, not a camera or upstream issue.

And then everyone hitting refresh like mad during Round 3 of the Main Event, and Fight Pass finally died for ALL of us under the crushing weight of all the pings.

One can reason that the connection from Invicta's computer that feeds into the UFC's server might be messed up from the start, but that still doesn't explain why it worked for some and not for others. If that upstream source lags, EVERYBODY should lag at the same time on the downstream side.

Would be VERY interesting to see who will shoulder the blaim for this technical nightmare though. I just can't see Shannon throwing Dana under the bus even if it's the UFC's server that's crashed, so we'll have to wait for the announcement from Dana himself

Thank you for the legitimate response and info.

according to the guy on the last page that can't be invicta's fault, clearly we must be overloading youtube

The strain on Invicta FC's cameras would be the same throughout the event. The strain on UFC's servers would be highest during the main event. At what point did the stream cut out?

During the main event.

Ergo, a FughPass server side issue.

Yeah, ok, but still...
It never happened with the other FightPass main events (that I know about).

We all know Waterson is marketable but, at the present state, is Michelle such a viewership draw that she > McGregor or "Bisping vs Lee"?
I'd be very happy for her if that was the case, but I would be kind of surprised.

A network has a finite amount of bandwidth for streaming.

The IT department is responsible for balancing the bandwidth dedicated to each event.

What we will never know is how many people logged in to watch live UFC Fight Night/Invicta/TUF, and how much network bandwidth is reserved for each.

My best guess is that the server bandwidth reserved for Invicta 8 streaming is along the line of The Ultimate Fighter, and it gets progressively worse and worse as the number of viewers reaching UFC Fight Nights threshold during IFC 8's Main Event, until it finally went to hell in Round 4.

Whichever production company Onvicta uses for their events, it's on their end. If they use a separate company fornthe streaming aspect, it's on them. I've seen similar happenings for a pro pool league. It had nothing to do with the cameras, the producers who decided on camera shots, etc. it fell on the company hired to do the streaming. Honestly doubt it was UFC fight pass' fault.

UFC Fight Pass is the company Invicta hired to do the streaming, you maroon.

Did you watch the press conference? The head of UFC Fightpass AND Shannon Knapp BOTH confirmed it had nothing to do with Invicta and was all about overloaded UFC servers.

Good news for Invicta and good news for the person who overloaded the servers:

Damn, can't believe I actually wrote that long ass post on my phone, when I can just say "Pipe down and wait for the post-fight presser, you silly tech noobs!" :icon_chee

All invicta cards stay up permanently. Or are at least put in library, or are supposed to be.

They seriously took the entire event down? It says the page doesn't even exist now. I was trying to watch today.

I would guess it is normal for it to be removed from the live section the day after and then put into the archive hopefully soon.

It's not, events get full access from beginning to end if they broadcast over fight pass originally. I watch events the day after all the time on there.

This is some crap.

Going over the 4 hour mark fucked up Fight Pass' DVR apparently. That's why the ufc splits the main card and prelims for their fight pass cards

Turns out the post fight doesn't work properly either, audio has some terrible noise on it, I can't hear anything they say. Well there's a working version on youtube... Must be somehow invicta's fault too I guess ;)

edit - nope, the noise is there as well
