Hey everyone! New here. Just wanted to ask. How does Borralho get a chance at Back up with a scheduled fight already.
Hi Cluch.
It's funny because Nassourdine Imavov was originally intended to be the backup fighter, but when his bout with Caio Borralho got booked, he posted something along the lines of
"Not the back up fight anymore. Conditions Changed".
So I guess once Imanov got an official fight scheduled, he no longer wanted to be a backup. But UFC still needed one, so they went with his opponent instead, Borralho.
And up to how many back ups are recruit for a main event like this?
Thanks
In terms of how many back ups are typically recruit for a main event like this, the answer is either 0 or 1.
Having said that, what the UFC will often do for security, is have a second featured bout from the same division on the card, so worst case scenario they could pull from one of those two fighters.
Many longtime fans could imagine a headline along the lines of: KHAMZAT INJURED. BORRALHO MISSES WEIGHT. MICHAEL PAGE STEPS IN TO FIGHT FOR THE TITLE.
Then within less than 48 hours we've all got to adjust to Dricus du Plessis vs. Michael Venom Page.
UFC can be wild like that sometimes.
