Television TV Show Thread

I am at home recovering from my knee surgery and I have all the time in the world, so I started to watch Parenthood a week or so ago. I really liked it and watched it intensely, but then I got really bored sometimes by the 4th season and stopped.

I'm also watching Landman and Shrinking

I hope that your recovery is going well

Disclaimer (Apple+ Series)

Psychological thriller series directed by Alfonso Cuaron.

I was mostly interested in the fact that Cuaron directed it and that it starred Cate Blanchett and Kevin Kline.

Despite the talent involved, the series is very uneven. Blanchett plays an award winning documentarian in a workable but precarious marriage with a slightly estranged 25 year old son.

Blanchett receives a mysterious novel that freaks her out. The book appears to expose secrets from her past. The entire situation quickly snowballs and Blanchett's life spirals downward.

Psychological thrillers require a large suspension of disbelief to work. Disclaimer goes way over that line. After a solid start the plot becomes increasingly preposterous. The dialogue is downright cringy at times (Blanchett's assistant literally says "you are so cancelled, Catherine" at one point). The characters often don't make sense. By the end, it is pretty much a train wreck.

This is a below average pulpy thriller in the trappings of prestige tv.

Gave up on that show years ago, it was just too boring.

Also, 1883 and 1923 both started out strong and turned to complete garbage, in exactly the same way. Promised everything but gave nothing.

Isabel May was stunning, though.
Yeah, I had the same feeling pretty much. But then there would be characters or parts of a story that I liked, and I had kept hope alive that they were holding something back and it would all make sense and come together in the end. Was a bad bet on my part.

Dont pop in here much to contribute, but love all the recommendations and watch most of them

For me, this year ended one of my fave series, My Brilliant Friend

It’s up there now with my faves. For reference, I love The Sopranos and Breaking Bad (and Better Call Saul)

Will not be for everyone, or perhaps anyone here on Sherdog, but it’s a great story. Four seasons based on 4 books

Written and filmed in Italian, so you have to watch with subtitles, but I think it’s better that way. A story of 2 childhood female friends that spans over 50ish years

I think the writing, casting, music and acting are superb. It starts out as the friends are young, and I usually do not like a lot of children actors, but the children in this show do very well with conveying the story

Anyway, I don’t expect this to be of interest to many sherdoggers, but some of you may enjoy it.

On Crave here in Canada, and HBO carries it in the States

Anyway, if you watch and are interested then reach out, I would love to chat. If not, then carry on. This thread is one of my daily checks as I’m always looking for shows to watch

Not sure if been discussed already. But, What If...season 3 isn't that good

I don't know if anyone remembers Halt and Catch Fire, but I just watched a film featuring Scoot McNairy and felt compelled to visit the saddest scene from that show. I don't know why I do this to myself.

I loved and hated this show, but this scene gutted me so savagely it's a tribute to how much I loved the characters.

I got around to starting From. I'm about 6 episodes in. I suppose I'm enjoying it, but I can't stop comparing it to Lost, except instead of an island with "others" and "black smoke monster", our main characters are trapped in some rural town with vampire like monsters that appear at night.

It's alright, but the acting was better in Lost. It does feel like the plot will be less convoluted than Lost, though.

I loved halt and fire. The whole show was such a vibe. Kind of a slower burn than I usually go for, though. Great acting for the most part. It's an underappreciated series.

One of my favorite series from the past decade. For people who like series that focus on characters and relationships over long periods of time, this series is a true winner. There's also tons of food for thought in regards to how the series weaves in history, economical issues, gender roles and social classes -- and More interestingly, how all those elements shape the various characters in the series. I watched a few seasons of this with my friend a while back and I recall having some good convos about it, specifically about the characters and why they behaved how they did.

I still need to catch the last season though. I've been planning to do a re-watch from the beginning sometime, but I'm just waiting to be in the right mood for such a journey.

I know that I'm extremely late to the party, but I just started to watch Fargo about a week ago. I'm currently on Season 2. I like it so far.

I guess I shall see if I have to jump thru hoops to binge as much Apple TV+ as possible over three days... like Silo, Slow Horses, Dark Matter, Invasion S2, Foundation S2. Or just subscribe for a month or so.

I liked it, I wasn't around then but made a lot of moneymemories from IBM so that resonated being all I ever did was sell IT to corporates.

Felt a bit down by Harlan Coben's new Missing You, apart from the last one with the kids in the US I've been really into every adaptation so it was a bit of a shame. But still very good, I just have high standards with him.

No hoops to jump thru for free few days of Apple TV+. Watched more Dark Matter episodes so far than Slow Horses and Silo. Slow Horses is just six episodes so will probably resume there.

Can't find where to view my full watchlist.

Checked out a few shows.

SAS Rogue Heroes: Hell yeah. Joyously embellished military propaganda, but incredibly entertaining. Jack O'Connell was outstanding as Paddy Mayne, and I'm definitely going to keep an eye on him in future projects.

The Count of Monte Cristo miniseries, 2024. They're going to keep revisiting this story, and I'm going to keep watching it. European production which had some fantastic set pieces which while feeling incredibly authentic also showed their age. Really good cast, and the material did not disappoint with this much room to breathe.

No One Wants This, Netflix miniseries. Loved it start to finish. Great writing, entertaining characters, believable situations. Not for everyone but people who like offbeat rom coms will love this. Justine Lupe really stood out as Kristen Bell's sister, really hope she gets lead roles in the future.

It annoyed the fuck out of me. Why didn't she tell him it was because she was raped? Her relationship with her son was already on a knife's edge and Cohen was going to tell him that she cheated so what did she have to lose?

So many holes. I carried on because I wanted to see what happened but the juice wasn't worth the squeeze.
