René Auberjonois, Star Trek and Benson Actor, Dies at 79

René Auberjonois, the prolific actor best known for his roles on the television shows Benson and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and his part in the 1970 film M*A*S*H playing Father Mulcahy, has died. He was 79.

The actor died Sunday at his home in Los Angeles of metastatic lung cancer, his son, Remy Auberjonois, told the Associated Press.

Auberjonois worked constantly as a character actor in several golden ages, from the dynamic theater of the 1960s to the cinema renaissance of the 1970s to the prime period of network television in the 1980s and '90s — and each generation knew him for something different.

For film fans of the 197*s, he was Father John Mulcahy, the military chaplain who played straight man to the doctors’ antics in M*A*S*H. It was his first significant film role and the first of several for director Robert Altman.

For sitcom watchers of the 1980s, he was Clayton Runnymede Endicott III, the hopelessly highbrow chief of staff at a governor’s mansion on Benson, the ABC series whose title character was a butler played by Robert Guillaume.

And for sci-fi fans of the 1990s and convention-goers ever since, he was Odo, the shape-shifting Changeling and head of space-station security on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

Much of his later career was spent doing voices for animation, most memorably as the French chef who sings the love song to fish-killing Les "Poissons" in Disney’s 1989 The Little Mermaid.

He played Odo on Deep Space Nine from 1993 until 1998 and became a regular at Star Trekconventions, where he raised money for Doctors Without Borders and signed autographs with a drawing of Odo’s bucket, where the character would store himself when he returned to his natural gelatinous state.

Auberjonois was also a regular on the ABC law-firm dramedy Boston Legal from 2004 to 2008.

Late in his career, Auberjonois would work with independent filmmakers including the artful director Kelly Reichardt, for whom he appeared in 2016’s Certain Women and 2019's First Cow, his final role.

That's a bummer.

Rest in peace Odo. May you join the Great Link.

Watched the latest Arrowverse crossover CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS and it's a convoluted mess especially for someone like me who hasn't watched the Arrowverse shows in a year. Pretty boring also. At least it was amusing to visit the different Earths like Tim Burton's Batman Earth and Burt Ward's Robin Earth.

All I'm interested in seeing is Kingdom Come Superman and Kevin Conroy's Batman.

This CW DC crossover is trippy. It has Smallville Superman, Routh Superman, Supergirl TV Superman.

Marvel Television to Shut Down, Current Series Folded into Marvel Studios

Marvel Television as we’ve known it the past decade will be no more. While the four announced animated series at Hulu, the upcoming Helstrom and last season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will still be made, the unit is shutting down everything else to join Marvel Studios.

“The decision has been made to complete Marvel TV projects that are currently in production, but not continue with any further development,” noted the TV division Tuesday. Layoffs are expected with the change in status for the once burgeoning small screen team, but not definite positions have been identified at present for the chop.

SVP Current Programming and Production Karim Zreik and select staffers will be making the shift to Marvel Studios to run the projects already on the books and on the go.

Today’s news follows months of turmoil and uncertainty at Marvel TV with a number of animated and live-action shows teetering or canned, the exit of longtime small screen chief Jeph Loeb and the further expansion of big screen boss Kevin Feige’s fiefdom.

The announcement back in late October that former Heroes co-EP Loeb would be officially out the door at the end of the year now seems but one of many dominos to fall on Marvel TV. One further wrinkle in today’s news is that Loeb might be around longer than expected, as he is said to be on decks for the handover.

It’s a handover with a lot of blood on its hands, so to speak.

As the Clark Gregg-led S.H.I.E.L.D. heads towards its last season on ABC, the planned Ghost Rider spinoff series for Hulu had the brakes put on it in September, the cancellation of Cloak & Dagger after two seasons on Freeform came the next month and the final season of The Runaways is launching on the Disney-controlled streamer this week. With no new shows on Netflix after Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones and The Punisher were all cancelled over the last year and a bit,Marvel TV saw the Hulu-set upcoming animated Chelsea Handler voiced and EP’d Tigra & Dazzler put on hold earlier this month with the departure of showrunner Erica Rivinoja and the staff writers due to that old chestnut of “creative differences.”

Additionally, in what could have been an creative lifeline for the TV unit, new upcoming original Marvel shows on the recently launched Disney+ streaming service like WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier had already been placed under Fiege’s mandate before he was anointed Chief Creative Officer in October.

Been binge watching the boys in anticipation of second season

First episode released online. Video may not be available in some countries.

The Expanse season 4 is up on Amazon Prime.

Watched the first couple of episodes last night. No drop in quality. Still a solid show.

Finished season 4 and I was bit underwhelmed. The stories weren't as exciting as previous seasons. Still a pretty good season overall though.

Started watching Downton Abbey last night, and ended up binging the whole first season. I didnt really think I'd get into it, but I am hooked. I'm actually gonna watch season 2 of Downton tonight instead of the Expanse S4.

It's a great show, only took me a few weeks to blow through the whole thing. I even convinced one of my college aged kids to watch it and she loves it too.

One of the best TV series of all time. I also loved the BBC version of Sherlock Homes.
