Supernatural Actor Jared Padalecki to Star in WALKER, TEXAS RANGER Reboot

walker_texas_ranger_-_jared_padalecki-photofest-_getty_-_split_-_h_2019.jpg

Supernatural star Jared Padalecki has lined up his next TV project. The actor, whose long-running CW series will end in 2020, is set to star in a reboot of Walker, Texas Ranger that is in the works at CBS Television Studios. The new project, called Walker, is an update of the 1990s staple that starred Chuck Norris as the title character.

Anna Fricke (Valor, Being Human) is writing the update and will executive produce with Padalecki, Rideback's Dan Lin (Fox's Lethal Weapon) and Lindsey Libertore and Dan Spilo. CBS TV Studios is shopping the project to potential buyers.

Padalecki will play Cordell Walker, a man finding his way back to his family while serving in Texas' most elite law enforcement unit. A widowed father of two, Walker returns to his home in Austin after two years of undercover work on a high-profile case, only to discover there's more work to be done at home.

As was the case in the original series, Walker will have a female partner who is one of the few women to serve in the Texas Rangers.

Walker, Texas Ranger ran from 1993-2001 on CBS, and the network revisited the show in a 2005 TV movie. It put up solid ratings throughout its run, ranking in the top 25 among total viewers four times in eight full seasons.

Padalecki, a Texas native, has spent the past 15 years starring with Jensen Ackles on Supernatural. The show is set to begin its final season on The CW on Oct. 10.

It's that time of year when the new shows come out and I watch them to to see if there's anything good only to be disappointed. I've been spoiled by the commercial free services so watching network television seems like agony. I enjoyed Blood and Treasure over the summer. Seems like more courtroom dramas this season.

GHOST RIDER Live-Action TV Series Not Going Forward at Hulu Due to Creative Differences

FWXcXnA.jpg

Ghost Rider will not ride again. Disney-owned Hulu has opted to scrap its live-action Marvel drama some four months after the project was picked up straight to series at the streamer, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter. Sources note creative issues stalled the series that was to feature Gabriel Luna reprising the fan-favorite role from ABC's fellow Marvel drama Agents of SHIELD.

Ghost Rider revolved around anti-hero Robbie Reyes, who is consumed by hellfire and supernaturally bound to a demon. Reyes lives on the Texas/Mexico border and when he unleashes the Rider, he brings vengeance for the innocents he encounters, but struggles to control the power he wields.

The project was to be executive produced by Ingrid Escajeda (Justified), who was to serve as showrunner; Paul Zbyszewski (Agents of SHIELD, Lost); and Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb.

Ghost Rider was one of two live-action Marvel dramas that was ordered straight to series at Hulu in May. The other, Helstrom, is still moving forward. That series also hails from Zbyszewski and Loeb. Both shows were to exist in the same universe as Hulu sought to build an interconnected live-action Marvel universe similar to the original franchise at Netflix. Both efforts were from ABC Signature Studios.

The Luna-led Ghost Rider was to be the third Marvel live-action series at Hulu, joining Runaways from Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. Additionally, the streamer has an interconnected animated Marvel slate that includes the comedies MODOK, Hit-Monkey, Tigra & Dazzler Show, Howard the Duck and the team-up special The Offenders. (The latter title should be considered a dig at Netflix, whose live-action miniseries team-up was called The Defenders.)

Tried out the premiere episode of Emergence. So-so so far but not terrible. I like Allison Tolman as the lead and her role here feels very similar to her stint in Fargo. She even has the cool reliable dad with Clancy Brown replacing Keith Carradine. There has been several "gifted" child on the run shows in the past and this one doesn't feel really too special (for now). Will continue watching a couple more episodes to see if it improves.

Season 2 premiere of The Masked Singer. Two singers were unmasked. I didn't guess the two correctly but I was close with Adam Rippon and the other one being a Youtube gamer.

I missed the first few minutes because a Tornado touched down nearby and they went on for over an hour, including into the start of Emergence. I liked it, but like many pilot episodes, things seemed rushed. They should have done a 90 minute or 2 hour premiere. One thing I found odd was when she dropped what I assumed to be a tracking device into the sink drain. The cast seems to be good. Alexa Swinton, who plays the mystery girl, is extremely cute and handled the role very well for a 10 year old.

I found an interview she did and she acts older than 10. She might be acting for a long time.

Fleabag is brilliant and it makes me sad nobody talks about it.

It was underwhelming on all fronts, with some odd jokes and questionable leaps in logic, but I'll watch a few episodes.

It definitely felt like someone saw Fargo and said "wow she was GREAT in that, let's see if she can pull it off with mediocre writing and a story we've seen told a hundred times".

Tried the premiere episode of Stumptown starring Cobie Smulders. Not bad. So far this is turning out to be like a better version of Jessica Jones - a more likable post-traumatic heroine, better supporting characters and capitalizes the private investigator premise for standalone episodes.

stumptown-poster-2.jpg

Episode three of Mr In Between has a couple of thugs sitting around talking about best Bond and then best Batman, it was subtly hilarious.

WATCH THIS SHOW.

It's amazing.
